" Julion De'Angelo is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ raised in North Carolina and based in Detroit, MI. Playing bass, cello and drums across many genres, from free jazz to metal, to noise and punk, has fortified De'Angelo's musicianship and cultivated a constantly evolving sound rooted in the Black American experience. With a steady stream of releases, De'Angelo has cemented his ethic as an adventurous sonic innovator both celebrating and pushing beyond the dancefloor with fearless and moving compositions. 
His acclaimed debut was a joint EP with Thomas Xu, "Roots That Talk" released on the legendary, Sound Signature label in 2017. He introduced the world to his genre defying rhythms and unique percussive exploits on "Stand on Your Square" for Tone Log. Collaborating with Viola Klein, he crafted two remixes for Meakusma, offering hypnotic, Detroit flavoured meditations grounded by Afro Cuban drumming. His 2021 EP for Japan’s Freedom School Records presented an experimental and playful sonic exploration that begins on the dancefloor and ventures out into freeform Black experimentation.
 Over the last 3 years De'Angelo has solidified his position as a world-class selector, worthy of carrying the Detroit torch. He has recently DJ'd at renowned venues and events such as Boiler Room, Meakusma Festival in Belgium, Tresor/Globus Berlin, The Hydra at Printworks London, Nowadays NYC and Underground & Black Detroit, contributed to iconic parties like Music Gallery, Black Music and Roots That Talk, alongside radio sets and mixes featured on esteemed stations such as NTS, Hor Radio, Kiosk Radio Brussels and Lot Radio. Forever connecting with his roots, he actively engages with African, Afro-Cuban, and Puerto Rican drum & dance troupes, fostering community connections and cultural exchange.
De’Angelo’s 2023 EP for his label, Maybee Hill Music, reflects his ever-evolving pursuit of fresh sounds and musical exploration. PUZZLE WITH TOBHA & GUESTS — #4

For this 4th episode of Puzzle, tobha has invited Alex Sourbis, a long time active member of the Brussels electronic music scene. For this episode, the puzzle is a bit more "classic", the first hour focussing on ambient tunes selected by tobha.

For the second hour, Alex started from a "chill D&B" playlist he’d been building over the past year. In his own words: "Although most tracks are around 170 BPM, I chose to focus on musical keys and harmonic progressions, shifting the emphasis away from groove. Unsurprisingly, the result is a strong sense of storytelling, with the narrative unfolding through changes in intensity and emotion depending on the harmonies. Alternating between 85 and 170 BPM also adds to the shifts in tone and colour. 
I recorded the mix in one take, moving into more intense IDM-style drums and classic jungle. The goal of that "chill D&B" playlist was to prove to some of my friends that intensity isn’t defined by speed or rhythmic drive. I think I managed to show that by focusing on gentler textures and melodic elements. Of course, I couldn’t resist going harder at times — but I always found my way back to calm and harmony."

Fresh from the release of her new single ‘Desaparición Incompleta’ on Nicolas Jaar's Other People label, Aylu, real name Ailín Grad, will play a special DJ set tonight live at Kiosk Radio, ahead of her concert at Les Ateliers Claus in Brussels tomorrow.

Aylu designs audio spaces from Buenos Aires, releases solo music, and collaborates with video, dance, and performance contemporary artists as her main practice. She will be at the Kiosk studio tonight for her set, intent on playing mainly music from Argentina, from her old Abyss label, as well as traditional folkloric music.

For the second hour, Casper comes in. In her own words « This mix was made during my performance at Tbilisi club Leftbank. It captures emotions—rage and sadness. It was the last day I saw my close friends, my flava, and I don’t know when we’ll see each other again. This is an immigrant’s poem and my intimate message to everyone who has left their home to build a new life in another country, but always returns to their roots, no matter what. »

For this 7th and first episode of the season, Puzzle doesn't invite any 
guest on Studio Néau. But as the situation in Palestine has constantly 
been worsening for the past few weeks, both in Gaza (with the 
aggravation of the current genocide and the validated invasion of Gaza 
City by the colonial forces of Israël) and in the West Bank (with the 
Knesset approving a recent motion on West Bank annexation), i've been 
again questionning my own relationship with entertainment and music.

After many discussions i had with Palestinian friends and relatives, it 
appeared clear to me that culture can be a way to write and preserve a 
common story for a population under the threat of genocide. Let it be 
through food shared with loved ones; memories depicted in pictures, 
movies, or paintings; stories told while singing—the list goes on.

I believe our duty is to dive into Palestinian culture, listening to the 
voices who tell us what their story is about. This way, we can help to 
preserve, without appropriation nor white heroism, the rich culture 
Palestinians have to share.

This is why this episode of Puzzle will be dedicated to Palestinian 
music.

For Puzzle #8, tobha has invited Coline Cornelis, an artist and composer who has etched out a singular audiovisual universe where sound, space, shapes, and textures meet to form a whole. She has created for this episode an aural environment that will envelope you in a subtil universe of field recordings and soft notes. She has selected music that has taken a special place in her heart for a very long time but that she hasn't had the chance to play yet in other contexts. Small pieces of music, reminding her of a book resonating with this show's topic, La vie mode d'emploi, written as a puzzle by George Perec.

For the visual, her drawing is simple and sparse: a beautiful, yet minimalistic, puzzle that will enchant your eyes, as her musical selection will enchant your ears.
