This months Stunner Mix is brought to us by DJ Jason Greer, a local San Francisco favorite and insanely talented vinyl slanger.  We first met Kaftan Greer at the Sunset Campout a few years back where his early morning set was filled with mind expansive funk.  Jeniluv, founder of the Making Shapes parties in LA, describes Jason as “a record hunter with seamless mixes & conscientious programming from the underground sound of San Francisco. Someone I can trust with my ears & my mind, someone who I hear organizes his records into crates: LSD, Ketamine, Mushrooms, Ecstacy….”.  When not DJing and digging for precious vinyl, Jason throws "We Are Monsters", a monthly party at Monarch in San Francisco and various venues in L.A.  This party features both locals and out of town headliners, along with Mozhgan Shariat. He often shares sets with the Pacific Sound crew with Solar, Galen & J-Bird. He brings his brand of psychedelic house and well, whatever it takes, to make his music and sound as funky and danceable as they get.

Following STUNYE III, last years highly acclaimed StunMo mix, vanity went straight to Landingstrip's head so he decided to return to his adopted eastern homeland and reconnect with his base. However, on the slow boat back to the land of the rising sun, the propeller got tangled in a mass of debris and Landingstrip spent the better part of 2013 awash in the garbage patch of the Pacific doldrums, working on his tan, cutting sick beats and trying to keep the isotopes at bay. Last week, somewhere east of Saipan, he flagged down an Indonesian teak freighter bound for the Port of Oakland and made it back with STUNYE IV to reign in 2014.

About the mix: All this past week, from Rio to Nola to Spain and around the world, people have been raging at Carnival parties, this mix is to remind everyone that the Carnival continues even after Fat Tuesday. The tracklist is heavy on tropical vibes from equatorial locations where stunner shades are a must. There's plenty of reggae and dancehall selections, but also a taste of Brazil, Trinidad, Panama, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Colombia, Angola and a few other places where people like spicy food. The mix peppers in a few Captain Planet remixes and finishes off with a brand new unreleased original tune that will be on his upcoming album "Esperanto Slang" which drops later this Spring. As we approach American Independence Day we present to you Mount Stuntmore, the latest mix by one of our favorite DJs, Anthony Mansfield. Get ready for this year's BBQ to transform into a massive house dance party when you start bumping this mix in the park.  

Anthony Mansfield has been on an 18-year journey through the world of psychedelic dance music ever since attending the now-legendary full moon massives of San Francisco’ s Wicked Crew in the early 90’ s. Anthony spent the rest of the decade in New York, spreading the gospel of deep house across the Empire State with a late- night radio show, his 8-year-running weekly, and the countless underground parties gave birth to his own crew, HectorWorks Soundsystem. After an exhausting and debaucherous 2-year run as GM, talent booker, and resident DJ at upstate’ s largest live music venue, The Odyssey, Anthony was ready to return to San Francisco.

Anthony hit the West Coast running in 2001, joining his old friend DJ M3 as resident DJ and co-promoter of the infamous Green Gorilla Lounge in a string of successful weekly club nights, true seat-of-your-pants underground parties, and blown- out monthly events across the Bay Area, with some of the city’s and world’s best names in dance music. Anthony has left his mark on Burning Man for the last decade as well, at the Space Lounge, Green Gorilla, and Disco Knights sound camps, with a trail of exhausted dancers and party people in the wake of his many epic sets on the playa.

Anthony has been producing his own particular brand of dance music since his first release on Rong Records in ’04 with Ben Cook as “ Barfly”. Quickly moving to found his own label, Hector Works, in 2005 with NYC deep-house production wizard Nick Chacona, Anthony has worked with Garth, Tal M. Klein, Sneak-E Pete, M3, and others in the last five years, releasing tracks on Gomma, Moodmusic, Aniligital, and Om Records. His tunes have received nods (and plays) from some of the world’ s top DJs, including Dimitri from Paris, Harvey, Greg Wilson, Doc Martin, Idjut Boys, Ivan Smaggle, The Revenge, Pete Herbert, and Playgroup. Camped out in his room at Moulton Studios, Anthony is currently hard at work on the 19th release for Hector Works, and looking forward to taking a break for the Sunset Campout!

Anthony Mansfield - Mount Stuntmore

August brings a new mix to all the Stunner of the Month heads. "Trap Stunner" is mixed by Trappa Keepa, aka Negatron Johnson of Bossasaurus, and highlights the most popular tracks of this new style. "Trap Music", "Trap Style", "Trapstep", or simply "Trap" is a new music genre which fuses Electronic Dance Music with hip hop, or more specifically, southern rap. If you haven't heard about "Trap" yet, the chances are you will be hearing a lot more about this emerging style, as big names like Diplo, Dillon Francis, Skrillex, and 12th Planet are all jumping on the bandwagon. It is a little difficult to explain "Trap" as the term has redefined itself by taking on a new meaning in 2012. Traditionally, "Trap" refers to the style of music created by Young Jeezy, Waka Flocka Flame, and Gucci Mane with origins in Hip Hop music of the early 2000's. In 2012 however, "Trap" means basically anything which fuses Electronic Music style with Hip Hop style. The result is a bass pounding assault  which appears to have no rules. Artists are combing House, Dubstep, Moobahton and more into their productions. It will be interesting to see what kinds of things develop as "Trap" continues to grow.

Stunner of the Month Trap Stunner August Mix

In honor of labor day Stunner of the Month presents the "Working Man Stunner Mix", a fly new reggae mix by our favorite Reggae DJ from the bay, Irie Dole. Get ready to jam out at the BBQ, like all the music Dole puts out, this mix will bring you good vibes. 

Irie Dole (Jah Warrior Shelter) is Selector/Operator/ MC/Dubplate & Remix Engineer for Jah Warrior Shelter Hi-Fi Champion Sound System. He's created the mashup series, Warrior Remix, providing quality Hip-Hop/Dancehall remixes for the masses at home and abroad. Jah Warrior Shelter Hi-Fi needs no introduction and have established themselves as one of California's leading sounds, winning 9 Sound Clashes in a row.Irie Dole is a well established and recognized personality in the California Reggae scene who has been exposed to the music since well before birth, Bob Marley was playing in the car on the way to the hospital when he was being born and Jimmy Cliff was a regular on the home record player.  But it wasn’t until high school when he started digging through his parent’s old collection did he become interested in the DJ life.  It was then he first linked up with DJ I-Vier, with whom he started making mixtapes and buying fresh vinyl.  Irie Dole has come a long way since the days of using “DJ Shack” equipment and photocopied 
tape covers.   

Dubbed “The Bay Area Remix King,” he has been DJing all around California since 1996 and is notorious for rocking parties with his unique style of mixing. His music selection spans from early roots reggae to today’s hottest dancehall, and even dipping into some hip-hop and r&b.  He is also one fourth of JAH WARRIOR SHELTER HI-FI, a popular DJ crew that has won multiple competitions and is a staple in the Nor-Cal reggae arena.  With a party almost every night, a weekly radio show, sought after DJ mixes, flyer designing and more recently, event organizing and promotion, Irie Dole keeps very busy and on the favorite list of many reggae fans. You can find him at parties like THE RIGHT TIME, every 3rd Saturday at Pier 23; BLESS UP, Tuesday nights at Milk Bar; and FEEL GOOD THURSDAYS at Brick and Mortar Music Hall.  Irie Dole was added to the raster of MCs for the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in 2012. 

Irie Dole, a native San Franciscan, has created a place for showcasing talent from “the Bay Area and beyond” at a night called HOME GROWN REGGAE every first Saturday night at Pier 23.

Working Man Stunner Mix

StunMo's new mix is  called Selassie Sound-Stunner Edition.  It is an authentic dancehall mix highlighting the work of the late Suagr Minott and Gregory Isaac.  Selassie I Sound have been a strong crew of selectors for ten years. Having built strong foundations in both Jamaica and the Washington, DC, Selassie I Sound represent true “Rastaman Sound”. Founder DJ Iyah Petah aka Dr. Peter Bryan, is a Phd in Biological Sciences and Professor  the Historic Black College, Howard University,  in D.C.  From his Jamaican roots and strong foundations, Iyah Petah has developed strong links with the most prominent reggae artists such as Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott, Capleton, Gyptian, and most recently Nas and Damian Marley.  Iyah Petah and Selassie I Sounds have dub-plates for days. They have selected some of the hottest parties in DC over the past ten year.  Residencies in DC include the former establishments Club 5 and The Space; as well as current Friday nights at Patty Boom Boom, partially owned by the Thievery Corporation, located on the historic U street in  NW. Iyah Petah regularly collaborates with Stunner family Life Massive and DJ PortaRock; often on large scale DC based events such as 4th of July and New Year’s Eve. Iyah Petah and Selassie I Sound stay true to ideals to progress a positive reggae sound representing unity and love for music.

Selassie Sound - Stunner Edition 1

We finally tracked down LANDINGSTRIP this year through the DJ circuit, throwing raves in the mountain caves of Turkey.  It took us the better part of 3 months, four false leads and R. Kelly to get his exact location.  Always ahead of his time, LANDINGSTRIP threw down as usual.  With an amazing bass line of funk throughout the mix LANDINGSTRIP adds a variety of different genres of music to complete the eclectic sounds he uses to express New Years Eve.  Long time stunner icon and elusive music coordinator, LANDINGSTRIP hands down selects great music.  This is his sixth mix we have dropped, four of the other ones can be found on our soundcloud page.  They erased MayiStunt for some reason.  Put on your dancing shoes, turn up the bass and get down for New Years 2013.

“Trapped In Your Mind” is a 50min warm-up mix for Spring. Throw on some STUNNERS, step into the sunshine & bounce to this. With SXSW, Ultra and other major festivals on the horizon, we felt like it would only be appropriate to liven up the place and give you an early escape!!! Bless.

Rich Greene (aka: Reflex Le Roque) has gone from playing at iconic special events around the world & exclusive nightclubs in NYC to setting the soundtrack for Red Bull Arena. Now producing with legendary recording artist Wyclef Jean & Refugee Sound, we anticipate some fresh global tracks and some crazy live shows from this New York native. Trapped In Your Mind mix by Rich Greene

A decade ago, Sneak-E Pete was lurking in lounges and warehouses in Williamsburg and the LES, opening for local bands mashing up 12" records.  After heading to San Francisco in '05, he's continued to produce remixes and DJ locally including his longtime residency at Madrone Art Bar.  For his second Stunner mix, he's gone the route of electrofied guitars and synths, classic and Indie rock, mashups and sly remixes of our favorite rock bands.  Foals and Metric killed it at Coachella this weekend.  Time2Stunt.

The Man With the Golden Stunt - mix by Sneak-E Pete

We were in Negril Jamaica recently and commissioned DJ Mario (Negril) and DJ PortaRock (NYC) to capture the true Jamaican Dancehall vibe for our newest Stunner Mixtape.  We wanted something that would rock in both the garrisons of Kingston and the forests of California. We wanted a mix that had the newest Dancehall music and would be fresh until at least 2014.  So that's we're passing out to you.  This dancehall mix was recorded live on the beachfront at Errol's Sunset Cafe - Negril, Jamaica, which was also a legendary record shop in the 70's and 80's.  Big up DJ Mario and Portarock for this stunner mix.
