"while the majority of it sits at 140 bpm, I’ve been experimenting with new tempos in a few of my songs over the past year, trying to break out of my comfort zone, and I feel like now is the proper time to showcase said experiments. „Biegsamkeit und Schwäche bekunden die Frische des Seins --- deshalb kann nichts Siegen was verhärtet ist“

Es gibt wenige Künstler die mich im letzten Jahr extrem begeistert haben mit Ihrer Musik. Dazu gehört zweifelsohne der Berliner Künstler Baba Sikander mit seinem „kundalini schingeling“ Sound. Er versteht es wie kein anderer verschiedenste musikalische Einflüsse in einen unwiderstehlichen Soundteppich zu verweben und dabei doch diesen gewissen roten Faden mit einzuflechten. 

Auch als Produzent kreiert er zeitlose und sehr ausdrucksstarke Sounddokumente. Besonders hervorzuheben sind hier der Track „Draisine“, der auch das Intro meines Year-Mix 2016 von Adam Peter bildete. Und natürlich „Mantra“ der auf Lump Rec. released wurde --- ein Beispiel dafür das indische Mantras nicht kitschig daher kommen müssen --- Glück kann auch deep und melancholisch klingen.

Für sound(ge)cloud hat sich Baba Sikander mächtig ins Zeug gelegt --- möge „die Frische des Seins“ nur immer so sein. Danke Alex für deine Mühe und deinen besonderen Sound. Und nun genug der Worte --- möge „kundalini schingeling“ mit euch sein.

Niles is a deep skanker with a sound system friendly bassline and an appropriate choice of instruments. All the long, a splendid piece of music filled with positive energy which allows you to keep a meditative state of mind while still being able to tap one’s foot to the beat. The piece is lifted by the dub-oriented percussion work which gives it an amazing dynamic.


B1] Abstrakt Sonance & Ziplokk – Jungle [05:36]

Starting with a peaceful and melodic introduction, the song introduces the listener to a “jungle justice” in a wonky world. The bassline is mental, yet incredibly peaceful and energic at the same time, leveled up by a nice stereo work of both producers. The beat leaves the listener in full of control, some sort of understanding of the chaos within society, driven even deeper on the second part of the song with a strong low-end field.

We’ve invited some of our favourite artists who are invested in promoting inclusivity to share an unexpected side of their music taste. Because ultimately, all music, being an individual expression of self, holds equal validity.

"The basic idea was to build a mix from tracks I revisit a lot as a listener (building from the opening song of the mix). Though very few outside of Richmond, VA have ever seen me play drum and bass or music up at this tempo, this style was an absolutely crucial part of my development as an artist and dj. My first times truly digging through crates of records purely catering to electronic music were at a now closed record shop in Richmond specializing in dnb and house music. Ultimately, I felt like I gained a lot of important knowledge that I could’ve only gained in person by digging or through others in person - especially concerning music that was popular in clubs before I could ever go out to nightclubs. Some of this leans towards the music often called “atmospheric drum and bass” or the styles associated with Ltj bukem in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Other tracks fall more in the realm of record labels like Auxiliary, another sound I find myself enjoying immensely as a listener. 

Therefore, this is a mix made firstly by myself as a fan of drum and bass and higher tempos. It is the sort of mix I would put on for a long drive to enjoy, though it is not the sort of mix I have ever released before this."
