The compilation features 5 new remixes of Dustin Zahn’s back catalog along with two new versions of Truncate’s cult classic, “Pad Mode.” It all caps off with a 31 minute odyssey from Minilogue that is finally available again for the first time in years.

Techno veterans, Alexander Johansson & Mattias Fridell, have been releasing music together for over 20 years on many of the genre's most established and notable labels, and here we are in the year 2023 seeing their first definitive techno album on Recorded Things.

Label owners Oliver Rosemann and Sebastian Rothermel approached Alexander & Mattias with the proposition to make an album for their label, and after heartfelt conversations about it, everyone concluded that their ideas aligned, both conceptual and musical and that it was time to set a plan for it in motion. True to their nature, Alexander and Mattias provide their signature sound in album form; efficient rhythmical work-outs & stern, yet playful synth sequences that sometimes bear the mark of classic techno, and other times take unexpected directions. All in a package that presents an uncommonly energetic album, with no fillers or pauses. There is just one direction, from start to finish.

It's the first ep from Evod in Faut Section and it fits perfectly in Lewis Fautzi's vision for his label. 

The italian artist delivers four tracks in which we most notice the cosmic and futuristic sounds, supported by the hard and fierceful surfaces and gritty atmospheres that are part of Evod's personal style. There's a recognizable pattern through the whole EP, event though each part of it is diferent from the others. At different speed rates, Evod shows that dancing is not something we do just with our bodies, but also with our minds.

It is always exciting to promote debuts on Faut Section and Evod has certainly proved that he is more than up to the task that has been assigned to him. Vento Solare EP is a masterpiece.

Birmingham Techno paragon Monrella (Mick Harris) doesn't mess about, returning to Trauma Collective with 'Shank', a no-nonsense cut of heads down 909 techno. His analog production strikes a fine balance between solid groove and industrial rumble as the characteristically dry precussion crunches around a relentless synth stab. 

Alongside Regis and Surgeon, Harris was an architect of the dark Birmingham sound that blossomed out of club night House of God. He played a key role in the genesis of grindcore in the late 80s as the former drummer of Napalm Death and went on to translate his taste for raw, analog distortion into rugged 4x4 club tools with productions for Regis' ZET label in the mid 90s as Monrella. Several alias projects followed, the broken techno explorations of Fret, beatless dark ambient with Lull and the dub inflected trip-hop / illbient of Scorn. 

'Shank' is remixed on the flip by the Berlin-based Force Reaction, a collaborative project from Kwartz and Kaiser, two purveyors of a particularly muscular strain of techno igniting dances across Europe. They last released together on Kaiser's K S R imprint back in 2021 but this is Kwartz's second outing on Trauma Collective after a link up with Monrella on TRM003. Their version introduces reverb and echo to the mix while firmly retaining dancefloor utlity. 

Rounding up the B-side is a polyrhythmic and densley textured remix from Héctor Sandoval as Tensal. Sandoval is one half of pioneering Spanish techno duo Exium, and he also contributed to ZET back in 2001. Tensal doubles up on this release, dispatching a second remix in the form of a peak-time thumper available as a digital only bonus track.

A huge source of inspiration to DMF since those highly sought after HFP 12”s hit the record store racks in 2014, Head Front Panel delivers a superb well rounded 4 track EP titled ‘Tactile’ for DMF’s 5th release.

The opening track 'Panama' opens with some otherworldly pads, sweeping resonances tickle the ear before signature HFP drums hit you with pure engaging energy. Broken kick drums and rattling percussion perfectly sit on this hypnotic tribal-esque sonic dream, a depth and area that we've not heard from HFP before. 'Tactile' brings the perfect tool, loopy rhythms that stretch the perception of time whilst getting lost in subtle rides and eerie door creaking atmospheres, deep listening will provide a new journey on every repeat. 'Surdo' open's side B, and we're catapulted into the fire with shaker/hi hat percussions that grab your attention immediately and vocal samples scatter across the stereo field. Shimmering pads take the track into deeper territory but all while keeping in a constant state of forward motion accented by the occasional double kick drum. Label co owner Hd Substance returns home with the second installment of his fauna dedicated series after Wasps EP from 2023. This time the chosen beast is the shark in many of its inceptions from the feared White Shark to the mellow and quiet Blacktip Reef Shark.

This time he used his System 55 modular rig and a Roland Alpha Juno to create all sequences and sounds while the percussive elements relied on the classic Roland 909 / Analog Rytm combo.

Release starts with Hammerhead Shark direct to your basic instincts, loopy and rough, repetitive and funky. Blue Shark comes next with a dynamic bass programming, constantly evolving, modulating the System 55 primitive oscillators and filter constantly, occasional Juno pads add some soul to the mechanical equation. Third cut is dedicated to the beautiful Basking Shark here Hd Substance uses his own voice to add a jacky feeling to this classic techno workout.
On the virtual B side Angel Shark brings the heat, solid bass frequencies, rugged modular textures and white noise washes and hits share space with crispy high pass filtered sequenced lines. White Shark goes deep and profound, almost trancey with the Roland 909 in all its splendor making the drums. Last but not least Blacktip Reef Shark says goodbye slowing down the pace and providing some FM tones and deep ambiences to this sub aquatic soundtrack for the dancefloor.
