CAIV deliver rigorous, syncopated machine rhythms on the Lives EP from U.S bi-coastal collaborators Israel Vines and Camile Altay, following on from their formidable debut EP Dwellers on Tresor last year.

Lives is four finely calibrated cuts riding a diverse tempo range, unified by rich harmonics and resonant percussive layering over veiled bass textures, where distortion becomes detail.

Jump Phenomena takes its name from the scientific idea of a sudden shift after long, steady buildup. The track mirrors that tension. It pushes forward like it’s about to snap, releases, then rebuilds again, always hovering on the edge of collapse.

This one has a bit of a history. The track is a collaboration with Jimmy Goodman, a recording pro best known for co-founding the East Village recording studio TransporterRaum and recording artists like The Strokes and Blonde Redhead. The initial sketches came out of a live jam at Nick Cislak’s Germantown Ave. studio, where Jimmy Goodman and I recorded audio and MIDI. We later chopped and edited our recordings, designing new sounds from the MIDI to stretch and twist the material into something more dynamic and volatile.

We actually finished the mix and master nearly two years ago (right before my daughter was born) and the track has been waiting in the wings ever since. Now feels like the right time to finally let it out. In a way, its namesake feels timely too: we’re all living through a moment where pressure keeps building, and it’s hard not to feel like something is about to give.

Rooted in techno, her sets are a bold blend of global sounds that break free from any genre and tempo limits. This approach is also reflected by her activities as part of Vivid Tapes, a collective and event series building (musical) bridges within the Innsbruck music community. Plus, as a dedicated advocate for feminist values she is part EAT, a FLINTA* DJ network also based in Innsbruck.
