I'm still trying to figure out what I can do about my hard drive... tried using a universal docking station but I haven't really had any luck, nor do I have money to deal with it directly.

I finally got around to making a quick test clip of what Toontrack's Made of Metal pack can do. These are by far the best sounding virtual drums I've come across, in every aspect.
