tactual’s fifth release comes from german-born, rotterdam-based co-founder LFL, who presents his second ep, entitled Coldsweats.  

Coldsweats follows LFL’s continued experiments in the realm of stripped back, yet intricately detailed techno. the four original tracks, in addition to remixes by Xen Chron and inesse, go a way to highlight the producers appreciation for the raw minimalism of 2000s techno, and the myriad rhythmic lines of flight this foundation provides.
 
each of the four tracks feature complex yet intuitive rhythmic patterns, specifically engineered with the dancefloor in mind. in addition, Xen Chron presents a jagged, heads-down remix of Dissect, whereas inesse presents a warm, rolling and delicate reinterpretation of Coldsweats. 

the EP marks the moves the producer has made since his debut EP last year, and gives an insight into the future direction of his musical output.   

Coldsweats (tact005) will be released in full on the 19th September.

A Tekko Kagi is characterized by four iron blades like bear claws attached to a metal ring covering the user’s knuckles. Worn over the hands, the claws can be used as an offensive weapon for slashing, striking and scraping the opponent and also for defensive purposes as the wielder can disarm or sunder swords or other slender-bladed weapons with natural hand motions.

Following his debut album last year, Sentient returns on the label with Unspeakable Periphery: Otherworld Transmission, a remix compilation that reframes his original work through the lens of a carefully curated group of artists.

From Alpha Solo’s dubbed-out abstraction to Clearlight’s tekker translation, from Soreab and La Serpiente tense rhythmic frameworks, to Left Path and Barking hypnotic and meditative zones, the compilation traverses overall percussive science and atmospheric deconstructions.

Closing the journey is a haunting illbient reinterpretation of the entire original album by Sentient himself, reassembling his own compositions into something more introspective - a stretched and fractured world somewhere adjacent to this one. As a bonus, the release also includes a continuous mix version of Unspeakable Periphery.

CAIV deliver rigorous, syncopated machine rhythms on the Lives EP from U.S bi-coastal collaborators Israel Vines and Camile Altay, following on from their formidable debut EP Dwellers on Tresor last year.

Lives is four finely calibrated cuts riding a diverse tempo range, unified by rich harmonics and resonant percussive layering over veiled bass textures, where distortion becomes detail.

marino2 lands on useless seconds with AS_FWD, bringing big sound-system material. With the weighty sound palettes of dubstep and dub steppers, the low-key french producer takes a step forward by blending in various references of hazy trap music with heavily-processed chants and tickling ASMR-style whispers.

‘homie’ is a proper heater : massive low-end, suspenseful synths, sharp drums, a classic but tasteful crowd-catcher vocal and, of course, gunshot samples.

‘prev-u’, in collaboration with Soa420, sees both producers exploring grimy influences, digested into a strong dubstep maestria sparkled with french rap easter-eggs.

‘cyrque’ is an intense roller, aimed at playlists called ‘take no prisoners’ or ‘smoke machine launcher’.

‘fergo’ takes a gloomier path, the head-banging halftime rhythm carries an intriguing whisper into classic wobble action but still in a haunted mood.

A veteran to the jungle and footwork scenes, Austrian based artist Simon Hafner aka Sun People has steadily grown a dedicated following through his string of strong releases on Exit Records, Defrostatica, Outlines, and Candy Mountain. Now reaching a new milestone in his musical career, Hafner is starting down his own path by launching a new label dedicated to his own productions and projects with like-minded artists. All Things Records starts off with a raucous bang as Hafner holds nothing back in his first album on the label titled Look Within.

Coming in a blistering 10 tracks, there is something for everyone to be found within. Expertly playing with a variety of inspirations and samples, the tracks ebb and flow but stay coherent. Through playful moments, and ambient, space filled interludes, the production is top tier, and the sound design equally so. A well picked, and compiled body of work that showcases the scope of what Sun People can do.

This Morning is the ending track of Look Within, and while last, certainly not least. The haunting disembodied voice lays the groundwork for a deep and dark percussion line that picks up after a breathy start. Energetic and seductive, the track entices you in and before you know it, you’re bouncing around without a care in the world.

This Morning, and the rest of ‘Look Within’ will be released both digitally and on vinyl via Bandcamp on the 17th of October.

PREMIERE: Sun People - This Morning [All Things Records]

This 12” picks up where Furesshu’s digital releases at a dubstep tempo on Echodub left off but also pushes into the deep, Berlin inspired techno sound that he is presently concentrating on (hopefully Project Squared will be releasing some of these unreleased techno productions in the near future).
1993 sounds fast for its mid 130s tempo, the bass drives the track’s pace and the delay affected stabs provide just enough melody. Horizons feels slower, you could perhaps describe it as a half step track although it twists up the formula for that sub genre. The bass evolves and changes throughout the track, rising and falling, coupled with drones and drums punctuating the track rather than providing a constant element. Untitled marks a change in Furesshu’s sound. 4/4 deep techno; 11 minutes of gradual, constant evolution in the melodic parts of the track but the driving, perfectly toned kick drum and hi hats holding the groove in place.
