Following tradition, we briefed our invited artists (musicians and painter) to create their own interpretations of the underworld according to Aztec mythology:

Tepeme Monamictlán is the second of nine levels of the underworld Mictlán, also residence of Tepeyóllotl (god of mountains, echoes and jaguar); this is the place where two mountains crash, producing enormous echoes as signs for the dead to cross to the next level.

For this occasion, we suggested the musicians to intersect the concept with a trip-hop sound, while staying true to their craft.
The results are beautiful.

Scherzo for Typewriters is a piece by Thee I’s that stirred their hearts and minds—they felt it was calling out for a narrative voice. I was delighted to accept the challenge, as I felt the same while listening. By a stroke of luck, I already had a narration written and recorded back in July—originally for my ongoing Soundcloud collaboration with Garben, which has produced many tracks. Although that narration didn’t find its place in Garben’s music, it patiently waited for the right song. When Thee I’s reached out, it became clear: ‘Scherzo for Typewriters’ was the perfect match. Everything clicked—all in one late, late night, just hours after I received their DM. Love is in need today, so to say.
