Psychonauts (heavy psychedelic users who maintain their sanity) view the pineal gland as the third eye, DMT is heavily produced there during REM sleep and so might be released and account for the effects of tryptamine/LSD like effects, since they disappear from the human body a few hours after taking them but they somehow still have effect on people for up to half a day like LSD. I just see Maynard as a pretentious stoner who thinks he's figured out a lot of the universe himself, he's a harmless guy, unlike say, Marilyn Manson who was somehow an insane violent rapist this whole time (big surprise there).

Indeed, that's why I never really got into them. Some great, to me, sludge/stoner metal bands have done much better, smarter moody stuff that's not tainted by being on a major label, which always adds the wrong kind of darkness to most bands that turn to the big label bucks.

For example, Slayer's "dark" image is mostly just that, their devil worship was not serious at all in their early years. From 1986 and on, some of Araya's lyrics (he wrote the lyrics to always a few songs per album) are pretty much hidden Christian songs (South of Heaven, Silent Scream) and the dark things discussed in the lyrics are centered around more real, liminal, evils, from many angles. Your generic music journalist will never really mention this.

So, yes, it's a land correctly described as lawless and not in the good way (pacifict anarchists, there's no Spanish Anarchists ove there. Who would have won Spain had Hitler not funded and helped Franco, even having tiny german divisions in Spain to help him.

The best song like this is "The Vandals - I Have A Date", very much a carbon copy of 1994 circa pop punk that was getting big, but The Vandals after the 80's were still too aggressive musically otherwise or even just their name might have prevented many from hearing that song. It feels very out of place on the album it comes from and it's obvious as to why.

We're back with another instalment of the Coda mix series, and for this one we're drafted in DJ/Producer DJ ANGELDU$t from all the way over in Los Angeles. We've been in contact with him for years and we were proper into the music output of the 138 live act duo he had going on. As part of that collaborative project, the guys were on pretty much every big lineup in LA, and toured extensively over Europe too.....Tresor, Basis, Possession - you name it!  Now he's doing his own thing, and the tracks we've been hearing are sick.

For this mix, it's a nice switch up from the past few mixes we've put out. Expect heavy, broken beats with this one!

CMND CTRL Recordings is a Techno label dedicated to musical expression, immersion, technology, and innovation.  We are pleased to showcase fresh new talent from Southern California with a 4-track EP by Insical.  A veteran of the SoCal electronic scene, and member of the famed 6AM Group, Insical delivers 3 unique techno tracks for the masses.  For this release we are highlighting an excellent remix by another newcomer, and close-collaborator of Insicals, named Jonny Maven.  Jonny shows skill beyond his years with this well-produced remix of the track "Robocall".  Punchy kicks and crips percussions are layered by a clever reworking of Insical's original elements and is sure to ignite dance floors across the globe.
