The 2017 seminal album from Goldie 'The Journey Man' is about to receive the remix treatment with Goldie himself having invited a host of artists to express their take on his third studio album. Described as Goldie's 'magnum opus' and his legacy LP, this reworks package breathes new life into an already incredible body of work. Drawing in both established names and those dipping outside of the drum & bass sphere, it's given a different dimension with every unique offering.

With names like Digital & Spirit leading the charge, paying homage to the late Spirit's heritage whilst bringing Digital's authority into the mix for 'I Think of You', the standards are already set in that first cut. Later contributions on part 1 come from names like Zero T, Jon Dixon, Phase, Artificial Intelligence, Mako, DieMantle, Mathew Jonson and Subjective (Goldie and James Davidson).

Meanwhile, part 2 draws first for the chaotic tones of Grey Code, juxtaposed by the work of Calibre, then followed by the likes of Jubei, Jon Dixon ft. Mike Banks, DieMantle again (this time with a faster version), Total Science, Dom & Roland, Jay Clarke and Lenzman. From beginning to end, there's an incredible array of talent.

'The Journey Man Remixes' draws for artists who have made their impact on Metalheadz and those who are currently grafting their places within the wider electronic scene, portraying the abundance of influences and tastes of Goldie.

DRS’s Space Cadet take its third orbit round the known universe, crash-landing once again in Planet Manchester. Big V’s still flying from the rocket roof window, sat-nav bunned eternally, we run on pure fumes, instincts and emotions. Unconditionally…

This time we have a new pilot and whole new team of navigators: Evabee, TMNMS, Alto Sounds. New names to some, but not for much longer. If you’ve heard any of LSB and DRS’s sets in the last year, you’ll already know what they’re capable of. 

One song, three versions. ‘Unconditional’ is presented in three distinct ways by Manny’s leading cosmic cosmonauts. A stirring breakdown of what love can be when it’s honest and real, ‘Unconditional’ is written, sung and lead from the front by Evabee. Produced by two of her closest co-pilots Alto Sounds and TMNMS, it follows a select series of Evabee explorations both solo and as part of the collective A Broken Camarilla. Well known on the city’s live community, you might recognise her yearning, dreamy realness from collaborations with Tommy Tickle, Inka’s ‘Waveydon Ballads’ or her own self-released soul-massaging ‘Full Circle’ earlier this year. ‘Unconditional’ is her full official debut. 

The first incarnation is the DNB Remix. Beats crafted by Alto Sounds and TMNMS, Eva’s spacious delivery is given all the room it needs to hit home. Disarming, faraway, hopeful, universal, her emotional delivery brings you close in, heightened by DRS’s bars mid-way. Pure rolling food for the soul. 

It’s followed by the Hip-Hop Remix. Taking off where Space Cadet left us with DRS’s critically acclaimed guerrilla-dropped From The Deep album last January, once again Alto Sounds and TMNMS’s beats hit with a warm, authentic heat. Soft keys, slouching beats, bags of space for the delicately woven vocal lines from Evabee and DRS, it captures of the essence and soul of the city each of the creative individuals involved call home. 

The last significant bit comes courtesy of LSB. Mentored and deeply inspired by Marcus Intalex, a Space Cadet lieutenant since time and one of Delroy’s closest creative partners, Luke Beavon adds his touch to the original with a star-gazing remix that’s already turned heads across the drum & bass spectrum. Continuing the theme and vibes of their recent album ‘The Blue Hour’, the duo’s rolling sense of restraint and subtleties are felt deep in every detail. Recently captured on video at drum & bass spiritual HQ Sun And Bass, where Evabee performed the song live, it’s a classic dubplate story with many, many chapters left to be written…

This is what Space Cadet is all about. A discipline that runs deep in the code; celebrating the music, giving it time and space to breathe and making sure the coordinates are always set for the future generation and giving new talent their own rocket packs to fly freely. DRS’s years of grafting, connecting and rallying up the Northern troops can be seen and felt in the pulse of Manchester from everyone who’s graduated from Estate Recordings to the stratospheric prominence of Children Of Zeus. Space Cadet is the latest embodiment of Delroy’s dedication. And they’re only just warming up.

Submorphics (Greg Axelrad) has made his name with soul drenched, deep, emotive, nostalgic yet forward thinking music. Drawing on eclectic influences from his formative years in Detroit, Chicago and San Francisco, Submorphics' productions have graced iconic Drum & Bass labels like Hospital, Shogun and Metalheadz, displaying a fine tuned signature sound developed over the last decade. His distinct feel for tone, melody and composition have earned him admiration from fans, DJs and music lovers alike.


Releases like ‘Long Been Gone’ and ‘Higher Ground’ (Ft. T.R.A.C.) cemented him as one of the top soulful D&B artists in the 2010s, leading him to start releasing longer projects focusing on deeper emotional musical journeys with an emphasis on sonic detail. 


Since signing on with premiere soulful label The North Quarter in 2018, Submorphics has released 4 larger projects on the coveted Dutch label to widespread acclaim. Joining the dots between soulful hip hop and D&B in his own trademark voice, the Detroit Haze EP and Kodak Dreams LP put a stamp on his longtime sound and vision with stunning effect - garnering love from both the D&B scene and larger beats scenes. 


Taking his lo-fi D&B aesthetic into the future, he followed it up with 2021’s Newport Magnetic EP (featuring Veda Black-lead belter ‘Let it Shine’) and liquid anthem ‘Albion Road’ (featuring Pola & Bryson), demonstrating a refined sound palette while still retaining his trademark deep melodic sensibilities. 


In 2022 Submorphics released another opus in the form of the Verona Highway EP, showcasing an even wider screen electronic vision and emotional range. A deeper collection of warm, dreamy and sentimental music, this EP was the perfect serene soundtrack to 2022 summer nights. 


With an increasingly busy DJ schedule and home now in The Netherlands, Submorphics is an ambassador of the best in soulful D&B, journeying across the globe spreading the sound he loves so much; and constantly evolving while always remaining true to his singular vision.
