Grave Encounter - Instrumental

This track was the product of a series of huge challenges my family and I have faced over recent years. My son being diagnosed with autism, my brother having a stroke and losing everything. I lost my job. And a myriad of other health problems that all seemed to converge at the same time. Life is hard. But you find a way. Everyone finds a way. There is always light after the darkness and we all face seemingly unbearable obstacles. But with focus, determination and love, we can all get through it. One of the things that has helped me get through my challenges has been music…and you. This community is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time and I think you are all amazing. So this #synthfam is for you!

Step Up

This is a track about overcoming adversity. Recognising that the world is in a terrile state, but digging deep inside to make sure, that you remember who you are.

Glow

I seek to produce music that brings some reality into the nostalgia of the synthwave genre… and this track is no different.

Yōkai is about anxiety and self image. It’s also about how society treats people who are struggling with their mental health.

We, as a species, can be too quick to judge. Or too slow to reach out.

Yōkai is my attempt to describe the emotions and the monsters that are created in this void of communication.

But the reality is this. There are very few monsters among us.

Apart from the ones we create for ourselves.

And there is always, always, hope.

Yōkai 妖怪,

Darklight has two meanings for me. 

First it's a portrait.. you could even call it a love letter, to the independent producer community. People often only see the end result of a track. the polished final product. What most people don't realise is the sheer volume of hard work that goes into personal and skills development,  technical competencies, mixing, mastering, sound design and composition. 
Then there's marketing, promotion, branding, networking, social media management, ads and analytics... all of which is underpinned by a 24/7 focus to do their best work every day. 
And it's hard. Especially when you get flippant comments from playlist curators (literally every artist I know has experienced this) who really should know better...

Many producers quit. All producers find some days harder than others, trying to make space for their passion alongside work, family and life in general. But sheer determination and commitment pushes them on, through the dark days, to find th moment where something clicks. The adrenalin from producing something that expresses that which you intended, perfectly. There's no better feeling. 

It's also a self portrait. 

Darklight has been a hugely challenging production to complete - 63 tracks,. 11 changes and a lot of clashing sounds in the early stages of development .But I'm really proud of the final product. It encapsulates the sound I want to make. A blend of light ethereal sounds, coupled with dark undertones. A fusion of dark and light. Energy and trepidation. 
I'm so happy with the result and I truly hope you enjoy it!

NEW SINGLE | Thunder Heart is out now! And it is a portrayal of true beauty. 

Every day, we each face our own battles, turbulence and trauma. Some are simple inconveniences. We can also all remember more challenging issues that we have had to work hard to overcome. 

Others however, can be life changing, in some cases, heartbreaking and on occasion, soul destroying. 

We do what we can to ride out our own storms and present an image of ourselves as in control. Some people can successfully present a portrait of normailty. 

Others just...can't... due to the severity of the blows they have endured in their past, and they continue to face down the shockwaves of those experiences, every single day.

From the outside looking in, even with the knowledge of our lived personal turbulence, it's all too easy to ignore our own circumstances and pass judgment on those that simply need a shoulder, a hand or a kind word. 

Thunder Heart is for everyone that fights mental, physical or circumstantial challenges and continues to put their game faces on every day.

Byut more importantly, it's for those that simply... can't. 

Please remember that the dark times will pass. And beyond the judgment that you may have experienced, lie some truly wonderful souls that will always give you their hand... and they will never, ever, let you go.

Thunder Heart

Moonlight Skydrive a very personal track to me and it is about following your heart, and pursuing your dreams.

Like it or not, tthere will never be a straight line to your desired destination, but that journey is part of the experience. There will oftentimes be pain, heartache, frustration and even isolation.

I mean, if you don't have to fight for it, is it really worth it?

But, if you know it in your heart and your core, that your dreams can come true, then give everything you've got in scaling that mountain. Be bold, daring and imaginative, to find creative ways to reach that summit. If you want it enough, that's exactly what you will do.

It's also important to take a wide angle on how far youi've come. Breathe in that air. Bask in the moonlight as you wait for the sunrise. Look to the horizon and you'll be amazed at just how much you've already accomplished.

MINDSAI is my 10th release and I really am so proud of it. It is also the second release in a trilogy of tracks that shine a light on mental health issues that are all too commonplace today. The ‘Genetic Disorder’ series started with YOKAI, which more broadly looks at the inner demons that people face, in a world that was not built for them.

With MINDSAI, I wanted to explore the misunderstood, difficult and often unpredictable life that Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) creates.

Broadly speaking, BPD affects 1 in 100 people globally and whilst the precise causes are unclear, it is thought to be associated with childhood trauma. It affects how people think, feel and how they interact with others. It manifests in emotional disregulation, highs and lows, emotional pain and impulsive behaviour.

So with MINDSAI, and consistent with the sound I have tried to develop, the track has a variety of changes that represent the different emotional states of someone who is suffering with BPD.

Nightbreed is a love letter to humanity.

Within us all exists such potential. As a species we have created AI, sustainable energy technologies and in just the last few blinking moments of our existence, we have connected our entire global population together. Who would have thought that a dial up tone would hold such evolutionary importance.

As a species, we stand at a crossroads.

What could our future look like? Will it be soaked in neon society peace and creativity? A thriving, creative society that is not bound by archaic systems?

Will the same systems perpetuate?

Will profit continue to be placed above people?
Will governments across the globe, continue to waste, deceive, deflect, divide and deliver no change?

Will the structural failings of our societies continue to be masked with the criminalisation of desperation? And the false prophets, the unholy trinity of the governmental, theological and commercial worlds have failed us all.

Yes, as a species we stand at a crossroads.

We have overcome every obstacle. We have survived on the surface of a planet that is it is every bit violent as is it beautiful.
And despite our imperfections, humanity shows the rarest combinations of intelligence, strength, compassion, and innovation, commodities that are rare in this universe.

We can chart a course toward a future that we all desire.
What future course would you chart for your children?

But any change in direction can only be precipitated by movement.

Together, we have a voice.
We all have a choice.
