Some rappers be killing my mood. I'll listen to shit on the radio or hear a 'hot' new rap album from some dude, and it's like my spirit curls up. The beats may be dope, and the style, but I'm not entirely into the motives or messages of these guys. It's defiantly not 'hate' against any new or old artist that have gained such a high commercial popularity, nor am I directing my energy to compete with such musical acts, I just build my music from a different place spiritually.

Growing up, I was going back and forth from the north side of Chicago, going to art school, to the south side where gang members are young entrepreneurs and positive or healthy choices are met with anger and a deep unending struggle. Yet, being around certain people and having examples such as my father (a jazz composer, pianist, and vegan for over 10 years), exposed me to more holistic paths in life which helped open my mind, body, and spirit to discovering ways of expressing myself.

Rappayamatantra EP is a bridge between the Dxnce EP, and my future LP release entitled Raw Money Raps. Rappayamatantra, as a theme, came to me while I was reading "Be Here Now", a book written By Ram Dass. It totally reaffirmed for me that everyone possesses a divine energy, and through certain practices and principles, anyone can realize and fulfill their own spiritual and creative potential. As a rapper, one challenge that can disrupt that true being, can be to remain relevant and even trendy so that one can be popular and make money.

With this record I didn't want to think too much about commercial appeal or trends, rather the personal struggle to remain honest and balanced for anyone, be them a rapper, a teacher, or a friend. This record is intended to be a direct communication for the humans out there, if you dress fly, or not. Even if you like to play computer games or meditate in the mornings. Be empowered and enlightened through your own light the body possesses, and bump this EP in the whip! Please Cop! Hotep.

On June 10th, Los Angeles hip hop group The Kleenrz (Self Jupiter of Freestyle Fellowship and Kenny Segal of TeamSupreme) are back with their sophomore release Season Two. The Kleenrzs have put together another record that falls in the dark film noir setting of their debut, constructed with an uncompromising lens over Los Angeles culture. The Kleenrz will release Season Two on vinyl and digital formats June 10th with The Order Label and there’s a lot in store. Season Two picks up right where their debut ended, splashing fresh paint on the canvas and heating things up through raw lyricism and organic production. 12 new episodes full of blood, mystery, and mayhem, served with the freshest of hip hop styles you can find from this era.

Described by The Kleenrz themselves, “Season Two is left coast, Southern, dark, messy, beautiful, inventive, cool, fun and frothy. However, as always with our music, there’s always nuggets of truths wrapped in with horror that reflects what we see and hear everyday.” The lyrical storylines on Season Two were solely written under the guise of Self Jupiter. Kenny Segal lays down creatively disturbing sample interludes, dynamic multi-instrumentalism and head nodding snare and kick drum. It’s all formulated under a lush scheme of cohesion between the two that touches every corner of hip hop and builds on the creative luminance of their first venture.

Features on Season Two bring together many roots of LA music culture, including Busdriver, Myka 9, Penthouse Penthouse, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, D-Styles, Sach, Abstract Rude, AWOL One, Grouch, and Eligh. Everyone featured brought their uniqueness to the LP, adding to The Kleenrz legacy in the most proper of ways. Season Two is absolute heat from Self Jupiter and Kenny Segal, imaginatively weaving some of the darkest corridors of society together and giving it a new world to thrive in.

One of the underground's hardest-working young producers, Oddisee has built a thorough body of work with a steady stream of albums, mixtapes, collaborations, and instrumental projects. On Rock Creek Park, he breaks us off with 10 joints that are universally chill, loaded with jazz-drenched loops offering wispy flutes, funked-out bass lines, breezy guitar licks, soft horns, and earthy pianos. “Closed After Dark," "Beach Dr.," and the vibraphone-and-ride-cymbal-laced "Mattered Much" are standouts, though the ‘80s-influenced "Uptown Cabaret" and yU collabo "Still Doing It" are also impressive. Though many of the tracks are similar on the low-BPM head-nod tip, they all sound great and make an ideal soundtrack for just keeping it mellow.
