wav.world emerged out of a long-running chat exchange of mixes, tracks, and some playful speculation: If you were going to make a platform for DJ mixes in 2024, what would it look like?

Mixes are a unique type of musical expression. They capture a specific moment in time, determined by the knowledge and style of the artist. A mix is as important a creative statement as an album, remix or EP. One mix can change an artist’s career, one mix can open a listener’s mind to something completely new.

𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓯𝓪𝓿𝓸𝓻𝓲𝓽𝓮 𝓶𝓲𝔁𝓮𝓼 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓲𝓶𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼.

We miss the importance that mixes used to have. So, we made a platform for mixes.

Each wav.world mix gives one artist the time and resources to create whatever kind of mix they want, to share something sonic about who they are and what they love.

Every wav.world mix will feature a longform interview with the artist which gets to the heart of what moves them—in music and in life—through text, video and image. Each edition of wav.world will feature the commissioned work of music journalists, visual artists and graphic artists.

Pala10 started as a vinyl selector for the Foundation Sound System. The last few years she has been experimenting with mixing and playing digital sets, combining her dub background with more contemporary and club influenced sounds.

DJ Flounce (she/they) is a DJ, radio host, and co-founder of Berlin’s FLINTA-focused events Double Trouble and FACILITATE. Most recently, they launched Tendersesh, a sober rave redefining nightlife culture. Known for pushing boundaries, DJ Flounce carves out space for sober ravers and the FLINTA community, shaking up the status quo of the scene.

Over the past few years, DJ Flounce has built a reputation for high-impact sets alongside heavyweights like Tasha, Josey Rebelle, Sweetpea, and Commodo, with appearances at Openground, Ohm, Fusion Festival, and more.

As a resident at Refuge Worldwide, their show Tender Tokens, weaves together experimental dub, sharp breaks, and atmospheric ambient sounds. On the decks, DJ Flounce delivers sub heavy, genre-spanning sets that ensure pure dancefloor mayhem—leaving ravers ignited and ready for more.

Washington D.C. artist soso tharpa explores the theme of intimacy for the latest instalment of Untitled 909's mix series. With questions like 'what does it mean to be intimate? Does intimacy thrive off curiosity? At what point does curiosity end and intimacy begin?', soso tharpa throws conventional mix formulas out of the window to create a session that flickers between the challenging and the bliss, floating through the bass-heavy soundscapes of dubstep, dub techno and some wonked-out techno moments including a personal favourite Mike Parker track.  

This contrasting element of chaos and balance is something that is found within soso tharpa's productions too, like his most recent release 'Fistful of Shells' on Nervous Horizon. The six track EP released in September last year drew influences from bass, techno and IDM and unfolds like an ever evolving journey, continuing to discover new ground as you listen through. Noting DJ EZ's Boiler Room as one of his most formative musical experiences, this moment led soso tharpa down a rabbit hole of bass and garage music, citing that 'something about that swing and micro-riddim spoke to me'. This influence can still be found across his productions, releasing his first track for a Bon Appetit Records compilation in 2019, as well as tracks  on Future Times, Rhythm Section, 1432 R and Human Pitch. Being nestled within the small music community of Washington D.C. has allowed soso tharpa to create a sound of his own, nurturing a slower approach to his output and appreciate every artist that comes through the city.
