Vardae’s creative world is deeply rooted in the psychedelic experience. Dreamed up by an auditory alchemist, Vardae’s highly imaginative take on techno combines microscopic detail, intricate rhythms, celestial soundscapes, and a pervasive depth that pushes listeners to the edges of their perception.

Vardae’s sound is visceral, exuding a ritualistic quality and an alluring, primal energy that bridges the gap between music for the body, mind, and the spirit. The resulting works are metamorphic—dynamic, hypnotic, and immersive sounds spanning forward-thinking techno, hypnotic half-time, and contemporary drum and bass.

Beyond his productions, Vardae’s creative vision extends to his work with Ewo ‘Eyes Wide Open’ Collective, where he curates multisensory experiences like ‘House of the Singing Wood’. This quadraphonic sound haven has been showcased at Europe’s premier festivals, including Per:sona, La Nature, and Monument, offering audiences a space for reconnection and transformation. Ewo also host regular Rituel Résonance events and a bi-monthly Chimera show on LYL Radio further provide platform for guests of shared values. A proponent of collective approaches to sound, Vardae also contributes to the growing gathering that is Ouroboros, a french festival and events series hosted alongside 13 friends.

Vardae continues to pioneer the convergence of psychedelic sound, visual artistry, and cultural curation. Undoubtedly one of my favourite artists at the moment, I am incredibly grateful to have had Vardae on the show! Broadcased live on PBS on the 27th December, 2024.

Today, we’re very pleased to welcome Italian-born, Berlin-based Midgar boss, Severja. Jacopo has been blending art and music for the past two decades. As the founder of Midgar label, he oversees both artist curation and visuals, and he's also part of Monument’s design and booking team.

His journey spans Europe, Asia, and Australia, including a stint in Taipei during the pandemic, and he's gained a reputation for hosting some of Berlin’s most talked-about parties.

For Osmura, he delivers a unique set — starting at 180 BPM and gradually slowing down through ambient and trippy dub techno, before ramping back up with d’n’b and murky steppers.

Based in London with Parisian roots, Caroune draws inspiration from the creative scenes of both cities. Her versatile sound blends downtempo, dub techno, deep techno, and drum and bass creating journeys filled with uplifting energy.

This summer, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on percussive rhythms between Ambient, Deep Techno and Drum & Bass.

Artist biography :
Prieste5s is a Berlin-based electronic musician, live-coder, and visual artist. In her own productions, Prieste5s fuses versatile influences from across the genre spectrum - bass-heavy sounds, hypnotic techno elements, breakbeats, ambient, and experimental influences characterize her sonic palette. She takes her inspiration from a variety of different sources, and is passionate
about experimentation in music and exploring the unexpected crossovers between different genres and different mediums.

Inspired by her fascination of the untouched wilderness, natural history, and geological exploration, Prieste5s’ sound is a synthesis of organic sound design and psychedelic atmospheres. Her music is an expression of the transience of experience, and the ephemerality of the natural world.

As a passionate live-coder and a member of Berlin’s Algorave community, Prieste5s has performed as a musical live-coder at Algoraves and club events alike. In 2022, she was one of two artists chosen by Brighter Sound for their From the Depths commission, a project celebrating the legacy of Drexciya and Transatlantic Exchange, in which she created a hybrid modular / live-coding live set together with UK artist All Trades.

As a producer, Prieste5s has released on labels including Black String Records, Underdub Records, Malör Records, Elements, From a Lost Place, Interlock, Madah Sounds, W133, ara -About Recording Artists, Traverse, Oslated, Low End Therapy, Aneelhi Rec, and Virtual Forest Records. She is also the founder of Immaterial Earth Records.

Born and raised on the island of Mauritius and now based in Barcelona, DjSport is known for her captivating approach to sound. She carefully plays with tension, release, and the uncanny.

Speaking on the mix, she reflects: “The weird tendency to listen to the sound of crickets filling my brain with distorted melodies.” A glimpse into the world she invites us to step into.

The live project, consisting of MTRL and Theodora, invites listeners on an unknown and surprising exploration through their own interpretation of electronic music. With their mix, they offer an insight into the landscape of their upcoming debut album „Vivarium“ on our label. Like their debut release, this logbook entry features their own approach to the art of producing alongside other tracks produced by artists of IO.

Kyntral is a co-founder of the Argentinian label Danza Nativa and he serves up a deeply immersive trip here. 'Inner Depths' is liquid deep techno in the mould of Neel or Donato Dozzy. Percolating rhythms and dubby undercurrents subsume mind and body while deft little details place you underwater. 'Bloodstone' is a little more lumpy with gentle smattering of percussion of drums that bump. 'Ancient Apparition' is a spacious sound with wispy pads disappearing to infinity, glassy tinkles and undulating drums all getting you into a meditative state. The Patrick Russell Phantom remix is more warped and dark to add a nice counterpoint.

Artist biography :
In the twilight hours where basslines bloom like roots beneath the soil, basic chanel weaves her worlds. Guided by low-end frequencies that shimmer like constellations underwater, she builds sets that feel less like parties and more like spells - otherworldly journeys through mist, shadow, and sudden bursts of colour. Her sound drifts between hypnotic techno, psychedelic dub, and dream-heavy bass, stitched together with the care of a storyteller threading myth and memory. 

A London-based DJ, writer, and founder of the acclaimed platform Untitled 909, Chanel’s curatorial voice is as distinctive as her mixes: textured, emotional, and gently radical. Whether on the radio or playing at international clubs and festivals, she conjures spaces where the overlooked and the infinite collide - where the floor itself hums like an ancient drum and every note flickers like candlelight against stone. Some of her key gigs so far include Open Ground, Corsica Studios, Sublimation Festival in Uzbekistan, Bait takeover at Le Sample Paris, The Pickle Factory, and Floorless Festival to name a few. She’s contributed mixes to renowned series’ such as Sure Thing, Pure Space, Origins Tapes, Theory Therapy alongside radio shows across Rinse FM, LYL Radio, Refuge World and Netil Radio - the latter two are the home of her radio residencies, Untitled 909 and spirialling, naturally. 

With roots in music journalism and PR, Chanel has long worked as a bridge between artists and audiences. As basic chanel, she carries this ethos into her sound - championing the subterranean, the psychedelic, and the subtle.
