Another ambient experiment, a bit more varied than the last. A mix of resonant granular samples from the Bastl Microgranny, a nice patch from the Arturia MicroFreak, drums from the Bastl Kastle Drum, and field recordings.

There's a lockdown on and all I have is my synths and a laptop that really isn't up to the job.

It's called three phase because there are three phases.

I was having trouble coming up with song structures, so I wrote a poem and asked my friends to record themselves reading it, with no further direction. Then I chopped up all the recordings and made a song around them. 

After I finished arranging it the first time I lost every single instrument track and had to start again from scratch.

Sounds are either the Roland JD-Xi or the Arturia Minibrute 2s.

and Though I Walked

A new synth friend told me about Synthwave, so I decided to try and make some. I wanted it to sound kind of videogamey, so there's a lot of squarewaves and bitcrushed drums.

This is the first track I've made in Reaper. Sounds are JD-Xi, Minibrute 2s, and Volca Drum.

edit: I've just learned that the Chemical Brothers have a song called Under Neon Lights. Now I feel silly.

I got an Arturia MicroFreak this week. Almost as soon as I started playing with it it inspired this track. All sounds are from the MicroFreak except the drums, which are 909 samples from the mighty JD-Xi.

I'm not very good at writing melodies, and I'm not very good at conceiving of a hopeful future, and here I tried to do both.

I made this several months ago and always thought I should add more to it, and then last night I remembered it and decided it was time.

Lately I've been wanting to do something more experimental musically, and I've decided to call this project "raingarden". 

In this piece, the beat is from the Bastl Kastle Drum, the choppy vocal sampler is from the Bastl Microgranny 2.5, and the drone is from the Arturia MiniBrute 2s. At various points various things were sent through the Roland JD-Xi for some reverb and delay.

I started playing with synths and music production in August 2019. Now I'm making music to while away the lockdown.

I have a Roland JD-Xi, an Arturia Minibrute 2s, Arturia Microfreak, and a Korg Volca Drum. I work in Reaper on Ubuntu.
