The collaboration between Quixotic and The Human Experience expands beyond the sonic experience and into the mixed media world. Quixotic blends world class music with performance art, using cutting edge visual projections with aerial, dance, and fire ballet to convey mysterious and beautiful worlds. On this release, Quixotic's own live band collaborated with David Block's cinematic compositions to create a synesthetic explosion on the senses.

Over the course of two years, Block worked with Shane Borth (Violin/Viola) and Anthony Magliano (Hang Drum/Percussion), sending files back and forth, receiving direction from Borth and Magliano as to what kind of musical landscapes they were envisioning for the performance.  Finally, "From The Outside Looking In" was born.

The album weaves together sounds from around the world.  Listeners can expect a palette of sensual, global, organic-electronica, fit for one of the most mesmerizing performances on earth.

It is the joint vision of Magliano and Thomas that has taken the loose collective of avant garde trendsetters and molded them into what the New York Times branded an “innovative circus [company].” This ultra-modern, multi-sensory experience shatters antiquated notions of “a night at the ballet.”

The stunning and surreal environments that set the scene for this experimental movement troupe has aligned its performers with the most progressive acts in the electronic music scene (Dave Tipper and Shpongle, among others), but its undeniable grace, transcendent athleticism, and dogmatic dedication to haute couture also allows Quixotic to flawlessly complement the Kansas City Symphony.

The raw power, immersive experience, and sheer mesmerizing artistry of Quixotic Fusion cannot be conveyed through words, nor can audio or video alone capture the magic of an intense, firsthand glimpse of the collective in action. At times, Smithereens is lucid, playful, and determined, and at times the soundscapes feel more like waltzing between a daze and a daydream. Never staying in one place for too long, the album progresses into a delightfully spirited, glitchy adventure through complex layers of experimental sounds and grooves. There also seems to be a bit of mischief strewn about if you know where to look for it.

This release truly is a work of auditory art that presents new sounds with each listen. Though each track is a unique psychedelic treat in its own right, found throughout the entire album is the consistent and familiar style and finesse that we have come to expect from Tea Tree. He guides us again through intricate layers of crisp, pristine production and careful attention to spectral detail. The deep, thumpy low-end throughout is rich and fertile soil from which the anthesis of intricate, diverse sounds and expansive textures emerge. Carried through to florescence by uplifting, exuberant melodies, Smithereens blooms into a beautiful psychedelic masterpiece.

4. Moyen Thyme

Another stellar example of how important having a writing buddy is. Moyen Thyme was orginally written in a hexagonal cabin in the woods of Deadwood, OR. The original song was a study in dub… but didn’t have any groove, or direction, and frankly lagged. In an effort to spice it up, I plugged Taylor through a series of insane dub effects while he played his guitar. Things kept on getting trippier… and while trying to figure out what to pair with the guitar, Jason Bailey came up. I knew Jason Bailey through his stellar stage management at What The Festival 2015, and Taylor knew Jason because he lived in Eugene before moving up to Portland. We gushed about his dulcimer playing and then we simultaneously decided that he *HAD* to play on Moyen Thyme. I got in touch with Jason, and he helped arrange a recording session at Sprout City Studios down in Eugene. Taylor remotely sent me his new arrangement of the track and it was a total banger. Jason was both the engineer for the session AND played the dulcimer. We had the help of two stellar interns Jasper and Raven… and the session finished ahead of time. With Jason’s playing the track suddenly had a life of it’s own, and is a testament to the having the right people in the right place at the right time. Moyen Thyme wouldn’t be possible without him. Thanks Jason!
