For the tenth edition of our VSA radio, we have invited a long-time friend and resident DJ 'HGR' to do the honors and surely he delivers with this pounding mix ripping out the corona carpet underneath us for an undeniable, irresistible, dance session of perfect imperfection.

'It took me some time to come up with an idea, record it and also being happy with the result.
This time I decided to compile a set that walks along a more ravier path. I included tracks that I heard for the very first time when I started to explore clubs back in '98. Also, stuff I discovered, collected and played throughout the past years.
A big thanks to the crew from Ved Siden Af for the opportunity to contribute a mix. I hope that we can soon be united on our dancefloors again.

Programming The Source represents the parallelism and the different distance that can exist between the pieces that make up the same work. On the one hand, a pattern of closeness can be identified by the sound similarity of the tracks, since Translate has opted for the homogeneity of the sci-fi sound, with its so characteristic musical phrases of high tessitura. But within this uniform and easily recognizable sound, the Argentine producer has been able to adopt a different personality with each track to separate them as much as possible within the same universe.

This album meets all the requirements to be part of Subsist record inventory, both for its musical orientation and for the extension of its format. The cosmic techno of this release admits quite different interpretations, in its 19 tracks its author offers energetic ranges that oscillate between rawness or forcefulness, and between a more peaceful and transitory style. On our last release for 2020 we welcome UK's producer and label owner Rich Jones aka Operator for his debut EP on MindTrip. 'Apocryphal Truths' includes five energetic cuts showcasing his mind-bending yet still tough signature techno sounds. From the opening track Sense to Facade Crush, till the last Mycelium, you can feel the energetic, rolling heaviness covered with tripped out textures and 90's influenced Techno patterns. Operator introduced himself to our MindTrip world with his 2hrs exclusive mix on MindTrip Podcast episode 48 and we are pleased to welcome him back for his personal release work.

For this episode of SNDR 024 it was very meaningful for us to host the Polish Berlin based artist https://soundcloud.com/kasiagosc because she is a supporter of the Ogolnopolski Strajk Kobiet (OSK) movement. 
In October she took part in the demonstration in Hermannplatz (Berlin) organized Dziewuchy Berlin  which supports the OSK cause. 
 
Our friendship with Kasia started on the warm Greek beaches, in a secret festival organised in Rhodes where some of our resident artists played.
That experience was a summer dream to this day we all remember as a wonderful adventure.
 
Kasia is an eclectic artist who loves to mix different styles of music in her sets.
Coming from a background of  mainly industrial and acid techno, over the years she incorporated IBM, adding breakbeat and electro beats in her mixes. 
In the last months she has been exploring experimental electronica with immense soundscapes.
 
Kasia Gościńska's set SNDR024 stands out for experimental, cybernetic, metallic tracks.
She chose a dark and mysterious scenario in which a highly abstract sound design reigns.
Most of the tracks avoid common beats entirely, landing in deeply experimental territory. This is one hour of futurist soundscapes that immerse the listener in a solemn ethereal bath.

'This is 74 minutes of music, mixed and recorded in my home and played on two turntables.
For the past couple of years, I have been learning vinyl mixing, and I’m beginning to feel a level of control and understanding that makes me feel comfortable sharing my efforts.
One thing that I’m consciously aware of when selecting and mixing, is to find the right balance between the repetitive and monotonous aspect of the music on one hand, and the wide variety in the different expressions and aesthetics of techno music on the other. If there is too little variation, it gets boring, and if there is too much variation, it loses that hypnotic drive that is most important for me. I often find it useful to think of DJ sets as narratives. As story-telling. You want things to happen, you know? You want to go to different places and experience different sensations. Suspense, drama, relief, emotions – things like that.

Another thing that I consider key to developing my practice is learning to do proper transitions. Long smooth blends, quick cuts, all of that - I want to learn to mix in all those ways, so I can put the right technique to use when it’s needed. I like when an artist is consciously
manoeuvering between different ways of mixing – it makes it more exciting and less predictable to listen to.

Then there is the aspect of timing. Oh, timing is everything! Part of the timing thing is sort of intuitive, but a big part of it is about getting to know your tracks, memorizing them. This is a challenge for any DJ, but particularly for vinyl DJs, since there is no waveform representation of the track to guide you, no cue points, etc. Just to point this out – I’m not saying that I am particularly good at any of the above-mentioned aspects of DJing – in fact, I’m a total amateur – but these are some of the things that I’m trying to develop and improve in my work.
