After Anna, our first Single, we've decided to continue to call our productions after female names.
Aria in Greek mythology is the name of a Nymph. 
It also means "Air" in Italian.
In Albanian language it means "Treasure". 
Aria means "Lioness" in Hebrew and "Noble" in Persian.
In the Opera, an Aria is a long song accompanying a solo voice, characterized by the use of melismas, repetition and sequences.

Known by many as an enigmatic eccentric, Paleblu is the moniker of Ryan Gonsalves, a 24 year old multi-genre artist hailing from East London. His passion for music began at the young age of 15 as an MC at drum & bass raves at the legendary club Cable and in the London warehouse party scene. Beginning from an early age has led him to host various sets as an MC at label nights including RAM Records, Hospital Records, Soulvent Records, Lifestyle Music, Cyberfunk & many more. He has been a member of Reprezent Radio family since 2016 playing host to a number of high profile guests including Ray Keith, Breakage, Cyantific, Chords, MC Rage - to name a few. Each release is different spanning different genres and mediums from indie hip-hop, dnb production and everything else in between. His projects touch on his various talents such as lyricism, songwriting and production. His first full length hip-hop project Bagged & Bruised was released in 2018. At the age of 23 he has played across the UK at leading London venues such as Printworks, XOYO and Fabric. Not to mention several performances at UK and European festivals including Secret Garden Party, Lovebox, Meadows In The Mountains (Bulgaria) and Hospitality On The Beach (Croatia). His diverse sets touch on his wide array of musical and technical talents from DJ sets, MC sets to live sets with a full band. An artist with no boundaries and someone who doesn't like to pigeonhole himself - Paleblu is one of the new wave of artists emerging from London.

Her exceptional ear for Dubstep nourishes her mixes with a unique character that leans distinctively towards the dark side, guiding a tasteful and forward-thinking selection. With a slew of prestigious accolades and endorsements (Outlook Festival, UKF, Croydub, Uprise Audio, Rinse FM, Subtle FM), and as a core-resident of Bristol’s Rotations collective, it’s clear to see that she’s doing something right.

She is also the master-mind behind Dynamics: a growing database and blog that celebrates female, female-identifying and non-binary artists in dubstep and drum & bass. With this exciting new initiative only just dawning, and a reliably gripping musical output, there is an encouraging future ahead.

From the tale of the Chinese empress erased from history to a dedication to the key workers who’ve been our lifeline for the past year, BrandNewTrumpets has quickly built a reputation for music rich with storytelling and subtle messages. Her latest effort, however, is the Croydon artist’s most upfront and thought-provoking work to date.

After two EPs where her voice played a supporting role — a melodic or atmospheric tool — now it takes centre stage. DIFF046 reveals the full extent of BrandNewTrumpets’ sharp, confrontational lyricism and a confident delivery far beyond her performance experience.

"I don't buy your 'Right to Buy' bullshit / Right to life only if you can buy your rights to it!" she spits on ‘Smile & Disable’, a bold critique of capitalism and disparity. Throughout the track BrandNewTrumpets addresses the injustice of inequality and the brazen lies and corruption that enforce it — “How a small minority in power have us fighting amongst each other for scraps,” as she puts it.

Brimming with her signature cinematic sound, the broad low-end and noodling synths provide an expansive backdrop to her intensely direct vocals. Once again, the artist’s loose structures offer twists and turns that grip the ear and defy categorisation — only the halftime tempo and crisp percussion betraying her junglist roots.

On ‘The Crossing’, BrandNewTrumpets’ jazz influences take over entirely. Driven by six minutes of frenzied percussion by producer, drummer and mastering engineer Bob Macc (Rephlex / Outsider / Inperspective), the propulsive rhythm lurches and sways through unpredictable, sampledelic swells and disorientating vocals. It’s a haunting, hypnotising listen that brings danger and despair in equal measure, mirroring the tragic circumstances that inspired it.

“Relenting to the narrative of Macc’s drums, I try to tell the horrifying story of the 16-year-old boy born in Sudan who tragically drowned when trying to reach British shores in desperation for his life,” explains BrandNewTrumpets. “It's a reflection on the perilous journeys that people take to escape and survive.”

Written in the dark depths of lockdown, both tracks shine a harsh light on the realities of a broken society, asking questions of those in power, but also reminding us all of the part we have to play.

DIFF046 lands as part of a trio of releases from Diffrent’s core artists Dexta, Lakeway and BrandNewTrumpets, each in some way reflecting the past, present and future of the label to celebrate its 11th anniversary.
