"We are Monologue, long-time friends and collaborators Aroma Nice and Earl Grey, and this is our new EP, Acid Settee. These tunes are the fruits of a collaborative tug of war between the two of us, over the course of one English summer. Pretty much all the music here has been done remotely, starting with the editing of the other guy’s hardware jams, trading stems and samples, putting a different spin on something and sending it back just a little bit more broken, or just completely remixing something previously unfinished. Our tastes as individuals don’t always align so we’re proud to have been able to agree on something for long enough to compromise and get these beats finished and out there to find listeners. When it is about art and music we are fascinated by unexpected sweet spot combinations: When traditional concepts meet new ideas, when darkness meets light, when rough meets the smooth. 
Here at 45Seven Unlimited we enjoy our sweet and salty popcorn and we are always looking for exciting new blends that inject modern beats and basses into a half century of Dub history. This next incarnation of our bubbling melting dub tank hits right in this very honey pot with this double A side by Rainforest.

Bullet Riddim sets the pace for this plate with a nicely syncopated yet rolling groove with deep skanks, playful bass and some delicious drum switching. "My selectah is here to suit your heart desire ... and set your soul on fire" proclaims the vocal chop throughout the intro. And he is not wrong: Bullet is a rollercoaster of Jungle breaks, dubbed out Reggae horns, skanks and FX. Truly a "riddim so nice you gotta play it twice". [...]

Rainforest is transmitting from Mexico, has got a strong graffiti background and releases Drum & Bass music on labels like Shoot, Omni, Absys, Syhda, Monochrome and his own Breakbeat Rebelz. Known for the brilliant Jungle Is Our Dub 7" on 45Seven in 2016 which was almost label defining already, this new plate is even about to run them all out again. "Pull it up"!

Basic Rhythm - Western [Sound Killa EP SUBB017]

Drumfunk/braindance don dgoHn (John Cunnane) returns on Love Love for a collaborative 4 track EP ‘Talk To The Planets’ with jazzy experimentalist Danish friend Badun (Oliver Duckert). What results here is a bubbling platter of otherworldly sound design full of warmth (and the slickest drum-work going!) that fully imbibes both artists’ individual songwriting sensibilities, striking a curious balance between organic improvisation and meticulously detailed programming. 

Sonically the EP could be described as hi-resolution psychedelic drum n bass as much as it could alien future-jazz, detailed and rich with mad grooves just beneath the surface. Structurally the tracks are unpredictable but not jarring, with a free-flowing quality to them and a pace that feels like meandering at lightspeed. Way too immersive for casual listening, this is music for getting lost in the stars. Like using arcane beat science at a ruffneck hippy drum circle to astral project through space.
