My name is Dan aka Johnny Clash and I’ve been around for a while and I like and play all kinds of music. This is very much a jungle mix though not quite entirely and I believe it will take you on a journey, which is DJ talk for it’s a mess but I think it just about hangs together.

A big thank you to my good friend the lovely Uncommon Sense who introduced me to a few of the key players in this mix, and in fact was the one who brought Foot Long Records along to hear me play out. So it’s her fault. Shout out to my main northern hangout Stumblefunk ‘le fluff diabolique’ which has been the location, literally and emotionally (can I say spiritually? yeah, let’s say spiritually as well) for many of the shenanigans which have led up to this moment. Today on 0860.fm we have Dextrous. A proper goosebumps one for me this - his Jungle tracks in the early 90s were always some of my faves. Including Kings Of The Jungle, Selector Roll and Time To Move. 

We talk about how Pirate Radio gave him insight and exposure to Rare Groove, a genre that he took influence from to create his Jungle tracks that would then go on to get rinsed on Pirate Radio and influence younger generations such as myself. We discuss his relationship with communities from Kool FM, to Music House, through to his work on the documusical ‘Feltham Sings’ in 2003 for which he won the prestigious Ivor Novello award.

The talented Freebird makes a welcome debut on Codename with 'To The Ground EP'.

'Autumn In Spring' opens the release with a combination of beautiful key and driving breaks. 'Restart' brings deep rolling jazziness in spades, before the fascinating 'To The Ground' (feat Nonal L and Richard Kim) takes things into an experimental direction with stunning violin work and whispered vocals alongside abstract synth elements. The EP draws to a close with the understated euphoria of 'Small Finale', a fitting end to a fascinating release.
