We breathe in oxygen, transform it into carbon dioxide and breathe out. One simple witness of transforming matter. With this album I became aware of this inevitable movement and my deeply rooted need to live that. So I could not restrict myself any longer not to surrender to it, to the creative flow.
Very new and important to me was to collaborate with such immensely talented artists. It has elevated and transformed my production skills & process. I feel very honored to connect, learn and transform matter - together.

"The ‘Glory Days’ EP marks a new chapter in the Alan Johnson output. Following sporadic releases throughout the last decade owing to a separation across different continents for both of us, we take a step forward from last year's Stillness EP - with an EP that constitutes our first release of entirely new music, since our first record back in 2013.

We have a propensity to work and sit on music for long periods of time which has previously produced complex and challenging outcomes but the last 2 years has seen a growth in our abilities to focus on refinement in our creation process, and an attempt to tell a story through more simplistic means.

The record was assembled with a vision and purpose over the last 18 months for the YUKU label specifically. It represents a shift in our existing sound, consistent through our past outputs which can be identified on some of the tracks across the record, and delivers us to a place which is influenced by a wider variety of experimentation, centred around more danceable outcomes and an air of glossy playfulness. The EP is split into two easily identifiable moods, representing a nod to a sometimes chaotic and pastiched past and a suggestive view of where the future may lie.

It's been an honour to work on an EP for the infinitely attentive and carefully crafted series of records curated by Jef and Ilda at YUKU, along with our friends at dsplaced who helped create the visual aspects of the release with us. This record is for everyone."

Welcome back to another Transmission broadcasting from the HER 他 Transmission Mix Series, our mix series showcasing amazing artists from around the world. For the 168th edition, we bring you a mix from Ōkami https://soundcloud.com/okami_nari

Named after the Japanese word for wolf, Ōkami is the side project of artist Kamī; a space where she freely drifts between the meditative depths of dubstep and the visceral explosiveness of grime, drill and breakbeat in her exploration of the human experience, all with a loving and playful sense of humour. 


Having begun her journey as a DJ through Voices Radio, her mixes have been featured on the likes of NTS and Radio 1001 and she has found her footing spinning at London's Pxssy Palace, Body Movements and with the fast-rising Half East Records collective.

Ōkami presents us with a sub-heavy mix showcasing womxn and non-binary producers and rappers in the realm of 140 and bass music, highlighting the unique layers of ferocity, vibrance and mysticism that they bring to a field where they are still lacking the recognition they deserve.

I met him when rode his bike over 100 kilometers to a show where my band was playing in Texas, I admire his creativity, sincerity, and dedication proud to have him debut on Rinse.

Hot on the heels of nosync’s ‘Soundsystem Music’, Plasma Sources is proud to present Beton Brut’s ‘Project Researcher’, a 4-track offering of no nonsense, dancefloor-ready electronics which take influence from experimental club music, grime and musique concrète.

Having previously released standout EPs on CYTE Records, Beton Brut has built a reputation for delivering distinctively sparse and heavy-hitting productions which have garnered support from the likes of Mumdance, LCY and Walton. On ‘Project Researcher’, Beton Brut takes his sound and develops it even further. 

In the producer’s own words, the EP is “about materials - raw, straight and to the point”. This approach is evident from the opening track ‘Tom Machine’, as ASMR-inducing squelches are bottled inside an environment which bubbles with molecular detail, and pitted against clinically arranged percussion sequences. 

Up next, ’Lighter’ pulses with Beton Brut’s signature blend of grime-influenced bass-weight and snatches of pirate-radio MC chatter. ‘EMCA’ doubles down on this approach, with a more identifiable rhythm sure to keep heads bouncing at peak time. 

‘LSTS’ rounds things off with an approach to bass programming which feels like listening to a biological entity undergoing a process of evolution and regression. The palette feels viscous and shifting here, with abstracted percussion and gunshots populating this sparse environment. 

As an EP, ‘Project Researcher’ feels like the auditory equivalent of observing a chemical process inside a petri-dish. Beton Brut sets himself up as a scientist on this release, meticulously collecting individual samples from the deep corners of YouTube, introducing these into abstracted environments and observing the reaction.
