After shutting down the bot following an incredibly powerful and meaningful temple burn for our camp, many of you thought that was the end of our 2022 Burning Man. However, a few hours later, the bus appeared in deep playa with Nico Stojan at the helm, just in time for one last sunrise. Here's looking forward to many more surprises and unscheduled moments together in 2023.

"What an honor it was to return to the Robot Heart bus for the final sunrise set of last year’s Burn! 

Originally, the Robot Heart team wasn’t planning on playing music Monday morning, so I was super happy when they asked me to play the last sunrise on the playa.

When I arrived at camp early Monday, the RH crew was just waking up and the bus was still sleeping, but there was an excitement in the air - so often it is those unplanned experiences at Burning Man that create the most magic.

We drove out to deep playa in the dark and before long had gained a wonderful crowd, everyone coming together to dance away their final hours in the dust. People were exhausted, but also energized from their week in the desert and not ready to return to the default world.

It was a super chilled last sunrise set that I thoroughly enjoyed - an unexpected morning that turned out to be unforgettable!"

Nico Stojan - Robot Heart - Burning Man 2022

Hello we are Idylic - John Dill (@johndill) & illich Mujica (@illich-mujica). 

Back in 2020 we were in a cabin in the mountains in the middle of the pandemic amongst new learning DJ’s. It was a celebration of illich’s birthday and the first time we played together. 

We already loved the music each one of us played and it was an unsurprising moment of “let’s b2b!” back then. The flow was full of melodic groove with a rich track collection only found in the library of 2 well-seasoned selectors. 

We would come together here and there to jam when the planets aligned, and this is the first official recorded DJ set of ours; live at Burning Man 2023 @ Waffles & House.

This is pure Idylic Housey daytime vibes, before the storm came through, and before the Wafflolympics’ Syrup licking competition. (If you know you know…) ;)

One my favourite moments from Burning Man was having the opportunity to play music from the Lucy S Cargo art car during sunrise. Already just biking in a gorilla onesie through the dust to find the glowing snail in the middle of the playa while the first signs of daylight were beginning to colour the sky was pretty surreal. @christianvoldstad played a beautiful set before I started around 6am while the sun was still hidden behind the mountains in the distance. A few friends, some small groups and solo burners danced on and around the car, others hung out in nearby art cars that had pulled up to listen, others climbed a nearby art installation, others pumped a fist while they biked passed. Ice cold Bloody Marys being served by our amazing hosts to any takers from the cutest little cart and the back of the snail.

By 6.30 or so the sun had started to peak over the horizon and within what seemed like a few minutes, had risen fully bringing the heat of a new day in the desert. Then right after me, my brother @koramusique took over with a masterful session that ended ushering Lucy over to the temple where the Black Rock Philharmonic was playing a special performance. Keep an eye and ear out for this special recording coming soon 👀 this was the beginning of an pretty epic day..

It was interesting to get inside the airplane and see everyone coming in and out. When I came to the booth and started my set it was simply magical. For me sound is very important and both the sound system  and the lighting was impeccable which got me completely into the mood.  It was another magical moment for me on the Playa and I hope my music tells this story for everyone that listens to this set!

Did you know that the Negroni is the strong version of the Americano? Seems that a Mr. Negroni once asked the bartender in Florence, Italy, to spice up his favorite drink. The result was the strong aperitif without any mixers, as the bartender upgraded tonic water to gin. Quite a wise move we think! 

The Negroni is David Hohme’s favorite cocktail. David does not only like strong stuff, the New York based DJ, producer and @wheretheheartis label founder also delivers it.  

If you have experienced NYC nightlife the chances are high you came across the name David Hohme. His near decade residency in the thriving underground music scene has built him a reputation for bringing dance floors to life. 

Hohme's unique and unforgettable sound continues to receive rave reviews at the annual Burning Man gathering, where he's played for years. The phenomenal Bubbles and Bass set of this years gathering in the dust is probably still buzzing your ears.

David released his debut single "Fear Less" on his own imprint in 2016, which caught the ear of Anjunadeep heavyweight Jody Wisternoff. It’s only logical David released his following Soft Landing EP on Anjunadeep in 2017. And there is more to come, soon…

Subtract Music is a Los Angeles-based record label, event producer, and artist collective that has shaped the West Coast’s electronic music landscape since 2011. Founded by Anton Tumas and a small circle of like-minded friends, Subtract was built as a platform for forward-thinking artists—emerging and established alike—driven by a belief in music that lasts beyond the moment.
