DHSA Podcast 004 - Atsou [Madorasindahouse]

After first appearing on the label with a remix on the Africa Get Physical Vol. 2
compilation a year ago, Mbulelo now lands with his own fantastic four track EP.
Mbulelo grew up immersed in the deep and emotive house music that is so popular in his
native South Africa. His emotional yet futuristic take on the genre has quickly established the
man behind the beats, with releases on the likes of the mighty Detroit label Transmat.
Excellent opener 'Supernatural' is lit up by fantastic melodies and chords that speak of a starry
night sky. The drums keep you locked into a deep groove while textured bass brings some weight.
From there, the superb and soaring 'Coral' builds in rich layers of perfectly treated synth goodness
that extends to the heavens, with a genuine sense of soul riding on the warm, punchy drums.
Exploring more cosmic realms is '31 Planes of Existence' with its mix of sci-fi signifiers, twitchy
electronics and celestial keys all adding up to something perfectly heady and escapist. Last of all is
'Rejoicing Angel', which showcases exquisite drum programming that is light and delicate and
keeps you in suspense on some distant astral plane. The synths glow and glisten, the whole thing
oozes Motor City class and brims with musicality.
These are four fantastic tracks of richly detailed, hi tech and soulful techno.

His solo live performances fuse the current mood of any dance floor as well as a consideration of the past, present, and future elements of deep house, techno, disco, and house.
