In the early part of the millennium, 5 outstanding musicians from 5 different countries happened to be in New Delhi all at the same time-Lionel Dentan (saaz,rebab, sitar) was living in India, Osvaldo Jorge (percussion) was learning tabla, Gennady Lavrentyev (violin, guitar) was on a scholarship and Sandro Mariotti (saxophone) was visiting. Together with Suchet Malhotra, this quintet began playing and performing melodies from the near east, the middle east and the mediterranean, interpreting them in their own way, while retaining their flavour & essence. 

The result was a project that for almost two decades continues to be the de facto standard for an instrumental band-no vocals and no electronics, and yet, the music is appealing, timeless...

From their first gig on Dec 22, 2001, to the release of this album in 2004, three years later, Mystique blazed a trail of musicianship and virtuosity.
