One more live recording from the Thanthi TV gig. Another personal whim of mine - always wanted to do this song. Nila Adhu

So our bassie, the incredibly talented naveen came up with this idea of doing a bluesy version of this gorgeous song. yes, we've deviated quite a bit (arrangements, not vocals so much) but thoroughly enjoyed doing it :p hope you like it too!

this is wunderkind composer gopisunder's version of the classic. we merely followed his arrangement. kishor on percussions, josh mark raj on guitars and nikhil mathew on additional vocals 

Rasave

so i treaded on this hallowed ground with a lot of excitement and a tiny bit of trepidation. just leon james and me…and three beautiful songs. its amazing how simple yet complex these lullabies are - soothing, yet a lot of melancholy and sadness in them. they tell stories, speak the mind's voice, shed unshed tears. and really, nobody but the isaignani could've done this. greatness beyond. 

Lullabies - A Medley

so when rahman does folk or 'kuthu' the overriding appeal factor is always its 'cuteness'. we've tried to capture that spirit in this medley of 'nee kattum selai', 'sambo sambo' and 'kulicha kutthaalam'. josh on guitars, leon on keys, naveen on bass and kishor on ganjira…nikhil mathew on vocals (and whistling) alongside me. enjoy :)

we've been doing this medley at a lot of live gigs and its something i've enjoyed immensely. the best thing about this track is our bassie, naveen peter. don't miss the play-off between him and percussionist kishor in the second interlude of Humma. it's what we live for :)

Sheer co-incidence that these songs are from the last two mani ratnam releases…'moongil thottam' (Kadal) was a suggestion from my husband, and 'naan varuven' (Ravanan. Yes…ipdi our paattu andha padathla irundhichu!)is a song that does something to me (maybe because it reminds me of 'kothbiro' from 'the constant gardener' and both that song and the movie moved me beyond). so we merged the two for our second episode on thanthi tv. hope you like it :)

Naan Varuven/ Moongil Thottam

live recording off of the rahman episode. tried a samba version of this cute song from 'pudhiya mugam'. we normally do this on stage as a medley, along with 'badtameez dil' and 'nila adhu vaanathu mele'. but here it is, on its own. enjoy :)

July Maadham

a very significant song in my career, this is a piano version of the same. this version was originally conceived by the very talented navneeth sundar. leon james played keys, this time. 

Yen Idhayam (Singam)

can't call this a band version - it is more or less similar to the original. except for the chorus. a very pretty song that i recorded for the rising star-composer Anirudh Ravichander, for the film 'Vanakkam Chennai'. Keys: Leon James. Additional vocals: Nikhil Mathew. Enjoy :)

funked-up version of 'oru chinna thamarai' from the film 'vettaikaran'. we even added a cheeky little bit in the second interlude :) enjoy!

tharai erangiya - gorey gorey - saarosthaara

this little gem of a song didn't find place in the film (another version did), but the composer gopisunder was kind enough to include it in the album. ours is a slightly more sober version than gopi's crazy one :p but really, God bless gopi for always wanting to turn anything on its head and question the norm :)
