ABOUT edIT:

From humble beginnings on the Los Angeles underground to world tours of sold-out arenas, Edward Ma has seen it all in a career that now spans more than 15 years. Starting off as The Con Artist in the late 1990s, Ma produced for rappers such as Busdriver, P.E.A.C.E and Sole while holding a residency at Konkrete Jungle, where drum n bass and hip hop were spun side by side to hungry ears. In 2003, Ma reshaped himself as edIT. The next year he debuted with Crying Over Pros For No Reason on seminal UK label Planet Mu. The album melded together Ma's love of hip hop, drum n bass and experimental electronic music, a fusion that would presage hip hop's return to its electronic roots by the end of the decade. Crying Over Pros… sounded like nothing else at the time. It sounded like the future and it would put Ma on the path of his next evolution. In 2006 he co-founded The Glitch Mob, a project that would ultimately take over his solo work by 2010. Today the Mob inhabit a unique position in the dance music world, the roots of which go back to the sonic experiments of Crying Over Pros… Ten years on, the album is being reissued on limited edition vinyl and as a digital bundle with an extra five tracks from the original sessions. Its emotive power hasn't faded one bit and its relevance has only increased as the future it hinted at became the present we now live in.

We were trying to write something which gave some background on this track and what kind of year it's been, but the whole thing ended up reading like a despicably self-obsessed Christmas card.

This is a single we've been working on for a little while as an expansion on our audiovisual show and video-mixtape series, NGTV.
 
The vocals came from our friend and collaborator Simon Lam, who plays in the scarily good and criminally overlooked Melbourne band I'lls.

sug(r)cane began in 1998 and has traversed many genres while steadfastly maintaining
his various melancholic and dreamy compositions, mainly the deconstructed and soulful
reversed guitar samples who reigns in a multilayered and looped framework of electronic
beats, drones, treated loops and ethereal vocals…
So that he defines himself making so far ” shoefazing dreamplops” who is mainly inspired
by the alternative guitar bands of the late 80s/early 90s (Cure, Slowdive, Drop Nineteens, Curve, My Bloody Valentine, etc…)
