BLOODSPORT

Saint Catherine of Alexandria
Known as a virgin and martyr, she is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and a highly popular saint throughout the Middle Ages and in the Eastern Orthodox Church. 
Life and Legend: According to tradition, Catherine was a wealthy and highly educated princess in Alexandria, Egypt, who converted to Christianity in the 4th century. She challenged the Roman Emperor Maxentius for his persecution of Christians and defeated 50 pagan philosophers in a debate, leading many of her adversaries and even the Emperor's wife to convert to Christianity (for which they were subsequently martyred).
Martyrdom: She was condemned to be executed on a spiked breaking wheel. According to legend, the wheel shattered the moment she touched it, leading to her eventual beheading. The "Catherine wheel" firework is named after this event.
Patronage: She is the patron saint of students, philosophers, scholars, apologists, librarians, and craftsmen who work with a wheel.
Feast Day: Her feast day is generally celebrated on November 25.
Shrine: Her relics are said to be miraculously discovered and housed at Saint Catherine's Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Egypt

Hi, I’m SugarSynth; an ongoing audio/visual art project by Ashley Koopstra.

Crafting sound gives voice to the parts of my mind that are otherwise left on mute. 💜 I create electronic tracks that blur the line between melody, malfunction, retro vibes and heavy bass; ruthlessly using whatever tools I need to bring my vision to life. My workflow is unique: I write lyrics, record sounds, mix them, and produce melodies, I then use the most modern software and tools to sculpt, optimize, polish and create unique sounds in great quality. My vocals are heavily modified. Every sound I shape is a way to connect, to make the invisible feel a little more real.

I’m not chasing perfection. I’m chasing resonance and connection. If something in my sounds or visuals evokes emotion; that’s everything.
