It's so refreshing to hear one legend in the scene open up and be completely honest about their admiration for another legend like Ben did in the 'Info' section of this set. It helps to remind us that we're all just folks and blokes that share a deep love and cherish the moments of Zen, transcendence, temporary loss of ego, and sense of the purest kind of community that we can only find immersed in the groove of Techno made with unquestionable integrity like the artist and producer represented here.

"I first met Robert Hood in the early 90s in the London Club Lost. It was his debut in the UK. I was a big fan and follower of his music. Robert was wearing a trilby hat which I thought this was super cool and slightly unusual. After his set I congratulated him on a great job and introduced myself. He was kind and humble and gave me a white label from the M-Plant label which I still have in my record collection to this day.

The music that Robert Hood makes for me is one of the purest forms of Techno there is. He has stuck to his artistic vision and kept his sound true to himself and the roots of Techno / Electronic music. Which lets be honest, these days is an admirable thing to do when so many artists and DJs have thrown all their integrity out the window and sold their soul to the devil just to try and make a quick buck or be a superstar DJ. 

I have only DJed with Robert once before and it was an honour to say the least and I’m very much looking forward to sharing the DJ booth once again with him at Suicide Circus. I have made this tribute mix to celebrate the man the artist and the legend that is Robert Hood. I hope you enjoy!"

Being both born and bred in Los Angeles is a bit of a rare thing according to Moe Espinoza who has produced and performed music under the name of Drumcell for the last 20 years of his life. He calls it a ‘city of transplants’ a place where people from all corners of the United States (indeed the world) come together seeking out a life for themselves. However, for some time residents of the city who were drawn to the emerging sound of house and techno in the 90s found themselves to be direly lacking in environments to engage in this sound. Espinoza himself was more than aware of this problem after being drawn into the genre from his very first rave experience, so as part of the crew Droid Behaviour he established a network of party goers and artists putting on techno parties in LA’s vast expanse of warehouse spaces. To the credit of his hard work, the scene has flourished and in recent years putting the city on the map for international artists alongside the more traditionally renowned spots for electronics, Minneapolis and Detroit.

But for Espinoza it’s always been about the actual creation of music, this is where his drive has always been. There are many layers to his capabilities, too. Drumcell and Droid Behaviour have always been about techno made for the dancefloor and the bringing of souls together, yet his live project Hypoxia and newer label BL_K Noise explores a much more introverted, experimental and immersive potential to his aesthetic.

We have a huge amount of respect for not only his audial ethos but also for the dedication he’s shown to bringing the spirit of techno to his home city. So, ahead of his debut in Room Two this coming Saturday night we felt it important to share his story and his style of selections in this interview and exclusive promo mix.

Drumcell fabric Promo Mix

Another favorite from my collection of classic mixes if this one by DJ Hell, which -strangely enough-, is nowhere to be found on soundcloud.

For me the best part of the mix starts around the 70-minute mark where he performs a Hell-signature-non-synchronized mix into Black Strobe's "Innerstrings" that suddenly changes the tone and tempo of the mix after which he seamlessly moves back into some top-of-the-line techno tracks.

Located in the heart of berlin at Warschauer Straße in Friedrichshain, Lokschuppen is well known for its friendly and diverse atmosphere.
We value diversity and inclusion, actively promoting a respectful and supportive community. With a diverse program featuring live music, DJ sets, performances and art installations, we aim to create a space for creative minds from around the world. Also known as Suicide Club Berlin in the past, the club opened its doors in 1994, becoming a cornerstone of Berlin‘s techno scene. Named after the influential band „Suicide,“ it hosted DJs like DJ Hell and Ellen Allien. Despite closure in 1999 due to gentrification,
it found new homes, notably at RAW-Gelände in 2009, where it continues to flourish. Since 2024 the club is rebranded as Lokschuppen Berlin.
The club is known for hosting various local collectives that form the club‘s unique character and diverse crowd. From Formula 90 to Pfandidos, Devoted, and Gabber Industries Berlin, these collectives infuse our venue with a variety of genres, ranging from groove to trance, hardtechno, hardcore, and house. we welcomed many well known techno legends such as DJ Rush and Ellen Allien, but also raising stars like Brutalismus3000, MCR-T, Klangkünstler and many more. Since 2018, Chantal‘s House of Shame has found a new home at Lokschuppen, well known for its legendary queer parties featuring (drag)-performances and a sex-positive atmosphere.
