Decided to get the Ocean Machine out of the cupboard and give it another chance. In this loop jam I'm only use the Ocean Machine and nothing else. Looper - delay - reverb - delay. 

In terms of fidelity this pedal is quite poor. The reverbs in isolation are appalling for example. However, as a lofi improvisation/ambient device it can be quite enjoyable. 

I think it works best when you loop something and knob twiddle on the fly. I think this is how Devon intended it to be used.

I haven"t tried the Ocean Machine II. Let me know if you have.

Black Box Memories - Arsenic and Dust

This is the live performance from April 28th at SALT, Beyoglu. Here's a little background. Since this was my first live performance as Sumatran Black I wanted to reduce the stress levels as much as possible and simplify the live work flow. Essentially the core of the soundtrack was composed and recorded prior to the performance (you can find that version on Bandcamp- https://sumatranblack.bandcamp.com/album/a-page-of-madness-a-sumatran-soundtrack).

I divided up the score into chunks or "pages" that I could cue whilst the movie was playing via Ableton Live. In addition to this I created a large array of send/insert effects that I could manipulate during the performance. I think there were 8 main effects sends that did a variety of strange things. Once the main compositions were completed, the design of these effects sends was the most time consuming aspect of the project.

Some of the effect manipulations were very carefully planned out and timed to the exact second (if I played it right ) and I also allowed myself some areas where I could improvise.

Also, there was a technical issue with Page 1 of the live recording, half was missing, and so I recreated that Page in my studio as best as I could. Live, one take and no edits.
