“The Way” started with a piano melody and kept unfurling as I healed from the loss of a few loved ones last year…which was capped off with my beautiful family dogs both passing. The lyrics to this song took on their loss, but the whole thing is really an open entry from my own grief process through to happiness again.

English Summers Day

The Union crosses the Rappahannock river and clears Fredericksburg. The Confederates retreat to the surrounding hills behind a 4 foot high stone wall. Union frontal attacks, while valiant, are futile with casualties 2:1 ending in total Union withdrawal. History would later lay blame on the Union high command for the debacle. 
Lyrics - have multiple meanings: Crossing the river, subsequent fears and sorrow, poor Immigrant and runaway slave Negro soldiers compelled by their conscience to fight for a better free world; give their all often dying slowly and painfully while left alone on the battlefield - now the Lyrics:
