Rooted in jungle, breakcore, dancehall and dub, DJ Ripley weaves together bass sounds from cities all over the world, where immigrants and exiles bring their sounds from home and mix them with electronic beats. Her goal: to transform dancefloors into spaces for subversive pleasure, celebrating shared histories and their conscious dialogue, using music to challenge hierarchies: borders, genres, dominant definitions of gender and sexuality: to make systems quake and feel good doing it. She's opened minds and lit up dancefloors across 25 countries on three continents. Nurtured in Boston’s Toneburst Collective in the 90s, she cofounded Surya Dub (SF) in  2006,  joined Dutty Artz (NYC) in 2011, and in 2015 cofounded the groundbreaking HEAVY series with DJ Anna Morgan. More recently, she cofounded SUBVERSION PHL with Philly-based dj/producers Cristiña and Sideswipe. As a scholar, she’s also written a book on Jamaican soundsystem culture, copyright law and anticolonial resistance. It’s called Rude Citizenship.

Sun People is one of the few modern producers with an unmistakable signature sound. For more than a decade, the Austrian has seemingly effortlessly pursued the plan of developing a soulful minimalism in the field between footwork, jungle and techno, creating moments of bliss for listeners and dancers.

His third EP on Defrostatica emphasizes the contrast between footwork grooves - as in After The End - and spiraling drum techno patterns on 160 beats per minute like in Forward.

Hailing from Brighton, Dub Athlete cross-pollinates genres to create dynamic and immersive sets with dub-infused, trippy and heavyweight selections. Her versatility has led to sets for a range of labels and stages including Rupture , Hvywght, Deep Medi, 1985, Outlook Festival, Subdub and Ilian Tape. She is also a resident DJ for The Mine, a sound system bass music night operating in Brighton and Berlin, and alongside her residency, organises her own community events the Fortune Sessions, platforming local djs.

Her guest mix will be on in hour two and its a wonderful, blissful and emotional journey, holding the balance between soft tones, heavy dub sounds and rolling percussions. Excellence - as you would expect it from a true master of the craft!

Sun People - Inside (Out now on JBW)

Born out of a love for progressive electronic music, the Sun People project fuses elements of techno, hip hop, footwork, jungle and rare groove. The resulting sound is a perfect alchemy of musicality, soul and carefully placed kick drums.

There is an excitement that runs through the EP with tracks morphing quite unexpectedly and samples finding new spaces to inhabit, often out of context but sounding perfectly in place.

In the last years he crafted his very unique and distinctive style at 160 bpm, which he now fully expresses on the "Stumble & Grow EP". Successfully he combines the powerful rhythms of Footwork with the deepness of (old school) Jungle and spices everything with a hint of Detroit. There's a thin line between doing the same thing over and over again and having a true signature sound, Sun People is demonstrating the latter perfect with these four tracks."
