It has been over five years since Nick Höppner left his position as A&R and label manager of Ostgut Ton, the Berghain inhouse label, he had not only founded, but also steered through it's most creative and influential years. In the meantime, he has honed his skills both as a DJ and a producer touring the four corners of the world and releasing two critically acclaimed albums and a row of 12“ ep's. At the back of his mind, though, he always felt an itch which he can now finally scratch as he launches his very own record label, Touch From A Distance.

For the label debut Höppner enlisted the extraordinary talents of Desert Sound Colony from London, whose first two records on his own label Holding Hands, Höppner already loved and played out. On these, Desert Sound Colony's outstanding skill at sound design, composition and arrangement were already prominent and have now culminated in his Fast Life EP for Touch From A Distance. The four tracker presents DSC at his most focussed and versatile, constantly shapeshifting between the rich, bass heavy UK heritage and Continental-European traditions of dancefloor minimalism.

Opener „Fast Life“ is as huge as it gets: an undercurrent of electro breaks and a giant bass line push the track forward while celestial melodies elegantly provide contrast and relief. Next up is „Somehow I Talk“, a minimal banger not only displaying Desert Sound Colony's tongue-in-cheek humour, but also his incredible inventiveness in the studio. Deceptively simple at first listen, the track reveals an abundance of smart arrangement ideas keeping you locked all the way. The way the vocals twist and bend here is just breathtaking.

On the flip, „Finger Flies“ ramps up the tempo and the syncopation for a bass heavy chunk of fun loving beat science, before „Glixen“ closes the ep featuring Desert Sound Colony’s friend Baby Rollen who helps to steer the track's bouncing funk into deeper realms.

This mix by Berghain / Panorama Bar resident @Nick-Hoeppner first aired on August 3 as part of @OstgutTon-official's takeover of @RinseFM and @Rinse-France. For this special simulcast on both stations in Paris and London, Ostgut Ton artists were asked to showcase a different musical side of theirs.

Nick Höppner: “UKG is a passion of mine since the late 1990s. I've hosted a weekly UKG club night in the city of Hamburg and through this I eventually learned the craft of DJing. Last year I've ripped a 2Step bedroom mix I did in 2000 from MiniDisc, and released it as a podcast with @FieldManeuvers. That was well-received. I'll be back with FM in late August, booked for a UKG set, and have played a garage set with Rhythm Section, London the other day. This sound is back on the map in 2019, the kids are rediscovering it and it brings me much joy to play with these records again.”

Nazca Records is back, and it seems like they are flying on a magic carpet to deliver this one to the listeners. Hraach is a well-known member of the Nazca family; his work has enchanted our listeners on many occasions. We proudly present to you this three-track EP that juggles different approaches suitable for different moments within an electronic music set. This new release fuels the motivation of the Viracochas, beings of a different world, and the Nazcas, life and art lovers, to embark on an exciting trip towards a much oriental sound. While Hraach knitted the two tracks, Empty Space and Monkey Minds, Los Suruba & Landikhan, Wild Dark, Alvaro Suarez, the sidekicks of this melodic journey, remixed and delivered them to the world. Landikhan and Los Suruba give their version a more Sci-Fi Investigation approach. How do they do that? Well, with a lot of imagination we can tell you that. Their remix is overflowing with soaring leads that find their place between sublime basslines. The differences between the tracks are easy to spot. While Wild Dark crafted the perfect opening track, Alvaro Suarez chose a contrast between an echoed violin and a futuristic synth. Curious? The entire EP will make you get lost within your dance moves.Enjoy!
