Sunata — taken from the Buddhist terminology "Suññatā" which often is used to refer to a meditative state or experience — is an alternative rock band from the San Francisco, Bay Area that formed in late 2012. Originally conceived as a two piece, just-for-fun jam band when Mark Francis (Vocals, Guitars) invited best friend, Mark Burgie Jr. (Bass, Vocals) over to have monthly sessions in the quiet small town of Pittsburg, Ca. It eventually evolved into something much larger and more driven with the inclusion of another best friend, Adam Hudson (Drums, Percussion). Each of the three brings to the table different genre influences ranging from Arena Rock, Grunge, Funk, Experimental, Hip Hop, Heavy metal, Post-hardcore, and Shoegaze. This approach results in each song cultivating its own unique identity and personality, which doesn't force or restrict the band into following one exact distinct style. In the end, it captures the very essence of what their namesake as a group means, a sonic experience unlike any other.
