Younolovebunny - Happy Nation II EP7.5


                Younolovebunny has a particularly nice ‘wipe the nose on the sleeve’ quality. There’s sweet warmth to it. Nostalgia rings through it of early 90s lo-fi acts. With little in the way of fidelity coupled alongside a good sense of humor (there’s a weird sample of a singer as the vocal gets distorted down to nothing) it manages to create its own vaguely narcoleptic world. Songs on here are instantly memorable. ‘Happy Nation II’ uses the brevity to its advantage. Pop music is delivered through so many filters, so much lo-fi, and it sounds human as a result. 

                ‘Ozonomio’ begins with a hazy surfer-like quality. At times the fuzz appears to be inconsistent in keeping up its energy. The singer sounds asleep in that ‘I just spent the past 5 hours on the beach drinking’ kind of way. It is infinitely catchy. This will get stuck in anybody’s head. From there he takes a more natural approach with ‘Whip It’. Here he appears to tone some of the effects and electricity. If this was recorded in somebody’s living room it wouldn’t be surprising. Even the backup singer appears to be having a great deal of fun. ‘Attention’ is by far the most memorable out of the bunch with the greatest deal of energy. To show he is serious about being goofy he still inserts a sample, randomly following into the very surreal ‘What I See’. 

                Happy Nation II has a lot of fun. It’s a strange trip. At times it feels like it belongs in another decade. This is a good thing.

Behind the pseudonym of YOUNOLOVEBUNNY is Claus Frøhlich, a
multi-instrumentist musician from Denmark and prolific songwriter.

His music has the shadow of the nineties hanging all over it, both
in the quality of his songwriting and in the spirit of his recordings that
capture moments in the celebration of a DIY spirit and lo-fi
atmosphere.
