“The suffering or the bad memories are as important as the good memories, and the good experiences. If you, sort of, can imagine life as being 99% of the time quite linear, and most of the time you're in a state of neither happiness nor sadness. And then that 1% of the time you experience moments of very crystallized happiness, or crystallized sadness, or loneliness or depression. And I believe all of those moments are very pertinent. It's like I said to you, that for me, it's mostly those crystallized moments of melancholy which are more inspirational to me. And in a strange way they become quite beautiful in their own way. Music that is sad, melancholic, depressing, is in a kind of perverse way more uplifting. I find happy music extremely depressing, mostly - mostly quite depressing. It's particularly this happy music that has no spirituality behind it - if it's just sort of mindless party music, it'd be quite depressing. But largely speaking, I was the kind of person that responds more to melancholia, and it makes me feel good. And I think the reason for this is, I think if you respond strongly to that kind of art, it's because in a way it makes you feel like you're not alone. So when we hear a very sad song, it makes us realize that we do share this kind of common human experience, and we're all kind of bonded in sadness and melancholia and depression.”

''Deze 12 uur durende trip bij Bosburcht ’23 was een van de leukste en uitdagendste DJ-sets die ik ooit heb gedraaid. We begonnen om 06.00u en gingen door tot 18.00u, wat een geheel eigen dynamiek creëerde. De bijzondere ruimte vroeg om een andere aanpak dan de gewoonlijke clubshow, waardoor ik volledig kon improviseren en een breed spectrum aan stijlen en sounds kon verkennen. 

Tijdens deze 12 uur ontvouwde zich een muzikale reis, waarin ik veel van mijn persoonlijke all-time favorieten kon verwerken. Met een reikwijdte van vijf decennia, een tiental verschillende genres en een snelheid variërend van 90 tot 140BPM, klonk het toch als een kloppend verhaal, dat eindigde in complete mayhem. Samen met de lieftallige, openhartige Bosburchters is er iets gecreëerd dat ik niet snel zal vergeten. 

Omdat een opname nooit helemaal kan overbrengen wat voor moois er gebeurde in die bubbel (of zoals iemand het noemde: de binnenkant van een discobal), heb ik de laatste 4 uur gepubliceerd; meer dan genoeg om van te genieten. Wat een avontuur, Bosburcht… Dikke glimlach als ik eraan terugdenk.''

The 28th Chapter sees Djuma Soundsystem team up with Westerby for our latest story in sound: the cosmic afro tech of ‘Disambigua’.

Now based in Copenhagen, Norwegian artist Djuma Soundsystem was catapulted into the public's consciousness over a decade ago with his club classic 'Les Djinns' on Get Physical Music. His organic, sample-heavy signature sound is the perfect combination with fellow Copenhagen artist Westerby’s rougher, analogue synths and techy edges.

‘Disambigua’, their much-anticipated follow up to smash hit ‘Koma Kobache’ (Get Physical), is a standout cut which is already turning heads on dancefloors across Europe with its dark groove and killer vocal hook.

Rising star Jonathan Kaspar (Objektivity, Pets Recordings) is first up on the Editions, where he takes things deep. Built around the interplay of synth lines in call and response, his rework is a pure bass monster.

Meanwhile, label regular KatrinKa marks her latest release on Chapter 24 with an Edition that places the emphasis on a trademark infectious groove, paired with a spiritual melodic motif; a perfect balance of darkness and light.

The package is rounded out by Aaaron. The in-demand producer has worked with everyone from Defected and Get Physical to (more recently) Connected and Yoshitoshi. He focuses on deep, powerful drums in a version heavy on tension.

With this latest Chapter there can be no doubt: four different flavours of ‘Disambigua’ which together add up to a clear and coherent whole.
