Welcome to the Collectors Episode Five. 
On this offering, we are privileged to have the type of fellow that one can only describe as, your favorite vinyl DJ’s - Favourite Vinyl DJ. The one and only DJ Vital! 

 A man from Essex, Fellow collector and Gooner ( Shout to the Analog Armoury )that we were dying to bring on early to the series, as he’s amongst those in our community that really helps drive record sales with his immaculate Instagram account @housegarageclassics.  Discogs should really cut him a check.  Let’s not fail to mention Vital’s  streaming shows on mixcoloud, which are essential listening for any soulful house head. 
So it’s only right ( or vital ) that this wax poet be amongst the first five in the series. 


Vital delivered a nice blend of new soulful house bits and some classics mixed into exactly what a Vital Set is expected to be.  Listen for yourself.

More about DJ Vital:

DJ Vital started DJing in 1996.

Influenced by the likes of Bobby & Steve, Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson and Tuff Jam he developed his own style playing US / UK Garage and Soulful House.

DJ Vital has played at venues such as Ministry Of Sound, Herbal, Neighbourhood and 93 Feet East to name a few. He had radio shows on House FM and Rinse FM plus many more.

He took a break from DJing from 2009. Almost a decade later after missing playing the music he loves, he set up an Instagram page (@housegarageclassics) posting up clips to showcase his vinyl collection.

We thank Vital for this soulful contribution and happily welcome this essential player in the vinyl community to the archive.

In Loving Memory of Philip Grahame Asher [1966 - 2021]

On Friday 22nd January 2021 our lovely friend Phil Asher suddenly passed away leaving his family, friends and the global dance music community mourning the loss of one of life’s unsung heroes and real good guys.

Without Phil Asher or PHLASH there would be no Reel People. Like so many artists and acts that came from London’s soulful dance scene in the early 2000s he was the LINK that made it all happen. He introduced all 3 of us and like all others we followed him in awe of his passion for music and love for his community and life.

Phil was an MPC beating, dancefloor destroying, hands in the air making, cup of tea and yum yum eating man like no other. Words can’t begin to describe just how infectious his laugh was and how warm his hugs were.

We are so grateful that Brian, Sheldon and all the guys at Traxsource have helped us to put this tribute page to Phil live on the site. Thanks also to all the friends of Phlash who have supported with charts and to Spinna for such a wonderful dj mix. For those who don’t know about Phil’s musical legacy, please take time to delve into this page and discover incredible joints and jams. For those who do know about Phil, we hope you find some hidden gems from this restless soul.

Phil was incredibly proud of his amazing son Marvin who has followed in his dad’s footsteps into music production under the aliases NGC and the Xutians. With this in mind his close friends have set up The Marvin Jupiter Asher fund to help Marvin continue his dream and continue the Asher legacy. Phil’s family & friends respectfully request that anyone who wishes to honour PHLASH is invited to make a contribution to the fund.
