Magnificent music!  With strength and conviction.  The ascension of the glissandi seem to express the impetus with which Jesus ascends to heaven.

Beautiful and composed with such depth of emotion.  love this.

It consists of three ideas as follows: the ghostly fleeting ascending glissandi, fluctuating air sounds, and the swelling suspended notes. The whole piece develops around or between these three gestures turning on themselves or going through transformations. 

The inspiration for this piece is based on the fresco L'Ascensione (c.1305, The Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, Italy) by Florentine artist Giotto di Bondone.

Elevatus was completed in 2018. It is scored for flute, clarinet, trombone, piano, vibraphone, violin, and violoncello. It received its first performance by Ensemble Mise-en under the direction of Moon Young Ha on 17 May 2018 at The Cell, New York (NY).

Mirage

Looking up at the sky, Lydia and Shawn wondering if they would ever see their father and aunt ever again.  They were among the few that were there to see the two crews before they launched for the two distant moons surrounding Uranus, Titania and Umbriel.  

Holding her breath, Lydia said a prayer for their safe return.  Shawn, his jaw agape, grabbed her and pointed at the sky.  Why were there two distinct moons in the sky above them? The Earth only has one moon, or so they thought.

Sungji Hong, born in South Korea in 1973, studied composition in Seoul before moving to England where she completed her Master in Music at the Royal Academy of Music in London and a PhD in composition with Nicola LeFanu at the University of York in the UK.
