Russian producer Artem Stolyarov presents a poignant tribute to his fans and to mental health awareness on ‘The Purpose Is You’, out now.

Whether he’s ARTY or ALPHA 9, Artem is one of Anjuna’s brightest stars. Redefining trance and progressive with a festival edge in the early noughties, the likes of ‘Around The World’, ‘Kate’, ‘Rebound’ (with Mat Zo) and ’The Wonder’ helped shape the sound of the genre. 

His ALPHA 9 project went from strength to strength in 2020: highlights include the ‘Stellar EP’, ‘Everywhere I Go’ and ‘All That I Can’. He produced a faithful update of Above & Beyond and Zoë Johnston’s evergreen classic ‘Good For Me’, released in February 2021 on Anjunabeats.

‘The Purpose Is You’ is a deeply personal track to Artem, as he explains below.

“It’s hard to find words that would outline the importance of this track to me. I’ve been nurturing this idea for a long time but making a song based on some of your worst life experiences and memories is very tough. Yet, it's an extremely important subject that needs much more attention and awareness so I want to share it with as many people as possible. 

Depression and anxiety are real and it’s terrifying. I went through severe depression myself a few years ago, I saw my friends going through the same struggle and sorely, some of them will never come back. 

But there was something that gave me a lot of hope and inspiration to make this song.
It was messages from my fans, who were sharing the stories of them fighting depression. For some of them, music was the last boundary before they would be gone forever.
 
I wanted to make this record as a reminder to myself and to anyone in need or going through dreadful times in their lives. Even in the moments when we feel the lowest and we see no reason to go on living, there is always someone or something worth living for. And beyond all, there is always a purpose: the person that you see in the mirror.”

Since his remix of Ferry Tayle & Static Blue's Trapeze and Tritonal's Utopia, Arty has been the producer everyone wants, and subsequent remixes for the likes of the scenes biggest names, Above & Beyond, Kyau & Albert and Paul van Dyk, and his Beatport No. 1 remix of D-Mad on Enhanced Progressive has cemented his position at the top of the newcomers from the past year. Back on Enhanced Progressive with another brilliant Original, Arty turns out two versions of Twilight Tonight. The Original Mix falls in a similar vein to that of his last two EP's on Enhanced, whilst the Arty Remode vamps up the atmosphere with Arty's trademark power chords with rich pads and synths sending the emotion into orbit. Remixes come from two of Enhanced Prog's favourites, MoodFreak and D-Mad. MoodFreak makes a welcome return after a lengthy hiatus, and he doesn't disappoint as he pushes the track towards the progressive house pigeonhole with his sparkly synths and groovy bottom end. D-Mad rips up the rulebook and goes for an entirely fresh approach from his usual style, combining stabby synths and bleepy melodies with the wonkiest bassline we've heard in a while! A new 'respray' of 2019 Anjunabeats club cut 'All In' from the London based trio carries a message that has never been more vital: we're all in this together.

With health workers around the globe locked in battle with COVID-19, Above & Beyond were inspired to revisit Fatum, Genix, Jaytech and Judah's tag-team effort, previously titled 'All In', from summer 2019.

Featuring a succinct yet powerful vocal refrain, Above & Beyond's Respray of "We're All In This Together" handles the source material with care, adding orchestral textures, classic trance plucks and a delicate piano outro. 

Above & Beyond says, "It's something we've been hearing so often this past month: "we're all in this together". These are powerful words for our time. They are a reminder that we all have a role to play, whether you're a key worker or isolating at home."

The official music video features cameos from over 70 frontline workers who are also members of Above & Beyond's official Facebook fan group, alongside Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep artists and label staff.
