'Ethereal Sex’ is the 3rd release to come on already acclaimed label Gypsy, whose past releases have been supported by a fierce cast of artists in electronic music. 

In this release, founder and producer Rudi Calcagnile returns under his new alias ‘Clang’, releasing three slabs of underground techno, oscillating between old school fast techno and hard house. The EP draws influence from a spectrum of adjacent styles between late 90s and early 00s techno, taking inspiration from artists like Surgeon, The Advent, Funk D’Void and Dave Angel as well as labels such as Tresor, Soma and Rotation Records. 

A1 ‘Meritocracy’ kicks off the EP with a distorted funky sequence which gradually reveals a bangin' hard house track, pervaded by heavy kicks, aggressive snares and extreme sharpened hi-hats. Massive! 

The sound becomes more industrial and crispy in A2 ‘Under The Sun’. The track immediately caught our attention with a mix of flattened industrial beats, gritty shakers and a funk bassline that create a tremendous tight groove which explodes in a multitude of powerful elements: dirty chord stabs, chopped vocals, snappy 808 snares, electric guitar riffs. Heater! 

On the flip, like in a secret rendezvous, a gentle-syncopated kick introduces us into a higher dimension where vibrant filtered chord stabs and a vigorous bassline come together as two bodies in a whirlwind of passion...until soaring cinematic strings and punchy 909 snares proclaim a sublime state of pleasure that only a selected few would call ‘Ethereal Sex’! 

GYPSY003 is a one time thing, no distribution, no repress.

PREMIERE: Customer Service - Dance First, Think Later [Control Freak]

Amy aka @ttyfal ist in den letzten Jahren eine wichtige Akteurin innerhalb der Leipziger Clubkultur geworden; die Liste ihrer Projekte und Aktivitäten ist lang. Ihrer Liebe zur Musik geht sie dabei nicht nur als DJ nach. Als Musikjournalistin schreibt sie für @frohfroh u.a. Plattenrezensionen, Künstler*innenportraits und erarbeitete in Kooperation mit Feat. Fem eine Statistik, die strukturelle Diskriminierung gegenüber Frauen* in der Leipziger Clubszene sichtbar machte. Die Schaffung von Sichtbarkeit und das Empowerment weiblicher* DJ’s steht auch im Mittelpunkt ihrer Partyreihe xa’li:t, die sie zusätzlich zur INPUT x sugar (@inputifz) Donnerstagsveranstaltung im IfZ kuratiert. Die erste xa’li:t Party „als beide Floors komplett voll waren, die Gäste super Spaß hatten und nur Girls an den Decks standen“ blieb ihr dabei als empowernder Moment besonders in Erinnerung. Das Aufgreifen von politischen und intersektionalen Themen in der Clubkultur ist ihr entsprechend ihres eigenen Engagements wichtig. Wichtig ist Amy aber auch, dass die Clubkultur an „stetig neuen, innovativen Konzepten" arbeitet und nicht einschläft. Darüber hinaus schätzt sie besonders ein solidarisches Miteinander. Egal ob in der Leipziger Szene allgemein, die sie für ihre Diversität hinsichtlich der Akteur*innen und Genres schätzt, oder auf dem Dancefloor. Hier ist ihr „nicht die Größe der Crowd wichtig - hauptsache der Vibe und die Energie ist geil. Wenn die Crowd sich komplett auf dein Set einlässt, du merkst, dass du mukketechnisch keine Kompromisse machen musst.“
Als jüngstes Mitglied der Ghetto Traxx Gang (@ghettotraxx) ist die family resemblance in puncto Sound nicht zu überhören: eine sehr UK-lastige Mischung aus House, Electro, Breaks und Garage. Der Fokus ihres Feat. Fem Podcasts liegt dabei auf aktuellen Breakbeat Tracks, die sie während des Lockdowns gediggt hat. Das ist für Amy auch das erste Mal, dass sie in einem Set ein paar Platten mixte. Der Podcast folgt dabei dem Prinzip „All Killer, no Filler“ - das können wir so nur doppelt unterstreichen!

2. Loopen oder eher oldschool durchlaufen lassen? 
Hab von dieser Funktion gehört, aber weiß bis heute nicht wo ich sie finde. 

3. Was sagen deine Eltern zum Auflegen um 6 Uhr morgens? 
Schon lange nichts mehr 

4. Hast Du auch schon das Phänomen erlebt, Alkohol während deines Sets einfach nicht zu spüren? 
Voll, leicht schwankend legt es sich aber auch einfach angenehmer auf. 

5. Wie sortierst Du deine Plattensammlung? 
Grob nach Genres, lasse ich aber auch gerne schleifen und liebe es dann auf eine Platte zu stoßen, die ich gefühlt schon wieder vergessen hatte. 

6. Wäre die Musik, die Du spielst, eine Frisur, welche hättest Du dann? 
Momentan Drei Wetter Taft Stufe 5 Igel.
