<World Beat> Some facts you should know. Suns of Arqa have been on the World Beat Music scene since 1979. They played at the very first Womad Music Festival in Shepton Mallet at the personal invitation of Peter Gabriel. Enough said. Having performed over the years at many major European festivals such as Glastonbury, Big Chill, Telerama Dub festival to mention a  few, this intriguing outfit  are best known for their fusion of Indian music and electro dub. They have always had a strong indigenous element to their compositions. So imagine my surprise when I popped this into the CD player to discover an album of Leonard Cohen cover songs. Sound interesting? Or maybe you’re thinking what the heck? Let me tell you Stranger Music is a phenomenal reinterpretation of Leonard Cohen like I’ve never heard before. Fusing their signature world beat elements, tight electronica and dub with some absolutely gorgeous vocal delivery if I had not known that these were Leonard Cohen covers, I may not have guessed it, such is the magnificent reconstruction of his songs. I cannot recommend this enough for any serious world beat fan. Simply superb.

Jaggernaut Whirling Dub is the ultimate transcendental trip to 'turn off, tune in' & enter the cosmic void. This classic album from Suns of Arqa presents four epic tracks, with sublime mixes from phenomenal producer Youth and sonic genius Greg Hunter, setting the stage with the massive opening track Jagnath Bhairavi. 
The music is based around Ancient Classical North Indian Ragas which are both timeless & magical. And feature the late great Ustad Kadir Durvesh on Shenai and multi-talented flautist and new age guru Tim Wheater. 
Maximum respect is due to Suns of Arqa creator and musical visionary Michael Wadada who supplies the full fat bass lines, creating a spaced out dub-dance experience of power, depth, and beauty - meditative and eternal.

Suns of Arqa have materialised as a musical collective, combining the ancient Hindustani raga systems with Piobaireachd and Nyabinghi roots drumming. They appear intermittently at the seasonal festivals and sacred ritual spaces, where they are a vehicle for the positive raising of vibration, connecting with both the sensory and infinite worlds, for the on going evolution of all sentient beings.

'There is No Danger Here' is a hypnotic & heady mix, featuring the gifted Johar Ali from New Delhi on Violin, Angel Eye's soaring Vocals, while Wadada provides the apocalyptic chant to create a potent & intense collaboration.

'Pure Reality' features all star reggae heads Country Rankin and Sticksman, collaborating on an avant-dub hybrid complete with rocksteady vocals. Wadada drives the sound on chromatic harmonica, while Angel Eye adds eastern delight with some chilled ethereal vocals.

As Wadada states:
'Before language became a formation of words, music was, and still is in other spheres, the means of communication between souls'.

Michael Wadada continues to defy all terms of musical reference with 'SEVEN'. Creating a new hybrid of Christian and Hindu mysticism layered with alchemy. 'SEVEN' combines Gabriel Faure's Requiem mass with early rumblings of Dub Step, Hindustani Ragas and Nyabinghi Dub Poetry... a unique and historic album. Recorded at the legendary Sawmill Studio in Cornwall and the Gayan Uttejak Studio in Budapest.
The conceptual story line features an impressive cast on the Arqa stage with John Cooper-Clarke as Ezekiel; Professor Stanley Unwin as Erasmus; Helen Watson as the Maid of Orleans; Sanyogita Kumari and Sarah Wildwitch as the Celtic sisters of Wyrd and Kadir Durvesh as Kali the destroyer. The effect is both fascinating and impressive.

ANGEL EYE provides the subtle blues tinged velvet vocal lines, while SUNS OF ARQA creator & sonic visionary MICHAEL WADADA supplies the magic on Sitar. Featuring Skip ‘LITTLE AXE’ McDonald’s (Sugarhill Gang, Tackhead) masterful Dub bass.

ADRIAN SHERWOOD’s On-U Sound Studio.  GAGARIN (whose musical pedigree includes collaborations with Nico, John Cale, Pere Ubu) forges an impressive mix, combining an organic roots vibe with subtle electronica elements setting the spiritual vocals in an exotic sauce of sitar, synths and effects to create a mellow but uplifting track full of depth.

Yum Yum Head Food was a legendary album that I made just to play for my friends when we all went back to mine - simply my very own chill out album at a time when I didn’t want to release chill out albums! This track has never been released before and comes directly from my House Of Love sessions when all we wanted to hear was blissed out tunes. You could say this track was therefore purposefully built for this Back To Mine album…
