After having melodic progressive veteran Lumidelic to be part of the label's 5-Year Retrospective compilations, Summer Melody presents brand new remixes for 2023, from three melodic sensations Shion Hinano, Lesh and Marcel Vautier!

The first remix comes from another melo-prog veteran, UK-based Lesh. With a previous appearance back in 2020, remixing Adam Sein's Remember, Lesh returns with his signature upbeat yet soothing progressive style. A mixture of melodic progressive and hints of electro elements, this remix certainly marks the return of the future classic from Lumidelic with his own twist.

The second remix, which has been an exclusive remix on Part 2 of the 5-Year Retrospective compilations, welcomes back Japan-based Shion Hinano, after remixing BVGSY DEL MAR's Homeostasis. With his signature melodic sounds, Shion replicates the original dreamy and snowy vibes.

The final remix comes from the talented artist, Switzerland-based Marcel Vautier. After the Artist Collection feature, he provides a creative and out-of-the-box remix, reconstructing the original melody into broken pieces and merged as uptempo mixture of progressive.

One of the most significant releases on sunsetmelodies to date is Alex H & Keith Harris ’In Loving Memory/Debadab’ EP. A beautiful homage to Alex H’s South African friend Debadab who recently passed away, this here is incredibly honest and inspiriting.

The first tune comes from Zimbabwean producer Alex H who continues to serve the world with incredible music. “In Loving Memory” is a shining tribute to a life that was taken away and he celebrates the beauty of life itself within this tune. Feel the emotion within each beat as you’re swept on a heavenly cloud into the sunrise.

For the second part of this stunning EP Alex H enlisted the talented Keith Harris and boy did they make an inspiring, progressive house track. “Debadab” is a ray of light and positivity and it’ll give you a moment to reflect and breathe in the uplifting vibes around you. The compilation is inspired by our weekly radio show of the same name, which is co-hosted by Jacob and Tom, as well as Johan Vilborg, Jayeson Andel, Vintage & Morelli, & Terry Da Libra. Reaching international listeners on Proton Radio, Digitally Imported, and other radio platforms, Silk Music Showcase recently reached its 400th episode (http://www.silkmusicshowcase.com) and now often ranks amongst the Top 100 Music Podcasts in the USA on iTunes.

Carefully selected to represent the sound of our radio show (and, more generally, our label), the songs included in the compilation range from the more pensive and melancholic shades of progressive to the more club-oriented, peak-hour material we tend to play at the end of our radio show mixes and live sets. Many of the artists are seasoned veterans of the SMS compilation series; there are also numerous first-time contributors to this year's compilation, many of whom have asserted themselves as leading talents in trance & progressive in just the past year.

Sunset Melodies is focused on Progressive House/Progressive Trance, identified by releases with richly melodic arrangements that provide an ample of aural indulgence. 

Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk, Chicane, Cosmic Gate, EDX,  Jaytech, Ruben De Ronde, Roger Shah, Ost & Meyer, tyDi, Giuseppe Ottaviani, M.I.K.E., Matt Darey, Thomas Datt, Boom Jinx, DJ FEEL, Steve Anderson, Moonbeam, Hazem Beltagui, Sunny Lax, Tom Fall and Eximinds support the label, with many more. 

“We see Sunset Melodies mainly as a movement of passionate people…want to move people by bringing music that takes a listener into another world.” What’s more, the label serves as a platform for undiscovered talent that “…gives them an opportunity to be heard within a vast majority of networks, establish an identity with an outlet for their music.” Ultimately, “We want to bring as many people into the underground scene…and our main goal is to make people happy with the type of music we release.”

“The moniker originally started as a YouTube channel back in 2009,” said Wahed Achterberg, label manager. “This turned into regular uploads of mixes with the latest releases of Progressive House and Progressive Trance that have accumulated thousands of subscribers and millions of [video] views.” Guest mixers have included with participants like Nigel Good, Vitodito, Dan & Sam, Aerotek, Kobana, Shingo Nakamura, Shawn Mitiska, to name a few. The channel garnered the attention of labels and producers, earning a position as “…a substantial voice within the underground scene (Tiefhaus Records).” Schodt, of Silk Royal, even said, “Love those videos…sounds wonderful…have very nice taste in tracks.” The transition from a YouTube channel to becoming a label resulted with a relationship of Fuzzy Recordings. “I started promoting their releases (on mixes). After a period of chatting with label manager, Jerry Chiu, he invited me to be part of his label, as an A&R manager.” After a few months on the job, “Jerry asked me if I would be interested in bringing Sunset Melodies to the foreground, as a label and part of the Fuzzy Recordings collective,” says Wahed. “He [Jerry] served as a peer advisor on how to manage during the first few months.” Beckoning for its voice is heard; the thriving YouTube channel came into its own as a label.
