The Midnight's "Los Angeles" is one of the most popular synthwave tracks out there. 

Mellow and nostalgic, it's perfect for The Golden Hour. This remix brings out all the best in the track, creating a beautiful and emotive experience that will transport you back to those memories of carefree days.

Los Angeles is also the song that got me into the genre and is the one song that if played can make everything better. Tyler Really did an amazing job both lyrically and vocally, so to make this meant working with the vocal stems, thankfully made available by The Midnight, and it really was an awesome experience. 

I decided to re-open this session (Tyler encouraged me to re-master it) but when starting to work on the re-master, I felt I could further enhance my original attempt, to which I added some visuals of that amazing city that is Los Angeles. Neon Chase is all about the journey. A constant motion that resembles life in most aspects along with the feeling of nostalgia for a flawless past that never was.

After recently losing my best friend, the remake of this song has become my healing process, allowing me to infuse it with the emotions and the struggle of a goodbye that was never said.

After conquering my own demons, I found a message that I had to bring to life in The Dance. This track is my way of representing the vulnerability of life, in that no one person can endure the darkness of their world without opening their hand (and ultimately their heart) to another. It embraces the fear of the unknown and even the courage to take a step back now and again. In the chorus, I describe my partner, who has been the driving force in taking a once impossible dream and reigniting it for the world to see. Through her, I am learning to believe in myself again and opening up to this ever-changing dance.

More times than I'd like to admit, I've found myself thinking that in order to do what we want in life we must always have or wait for someone else to come and save us, change our lives and take us to a better place. 

All this ever did was to make me feel like those same dreams I've had since I was a child were out of reach as if there was always something stopping me from getting where I wanted to be. 

One night it hit me. Clearly, this must happen because in one way or another, that inner voice, that one true feeling we know we can't deny, gets suffocated in a sea of uncertainty, in a sea of doubts and, in a sea of conforming to what is expected of us. 
That same thought, begun a process of going through everything that has happened in my life and re-establishing a connection that was once lost. 

This is why the song is called Memoir of a Future I. A connection has formed between my past and present self. Everything started to make sense, and it became clear that everything we go through in life is for a specific reason, that we rarely feel or understand at the time. Because of this, I can certainly say that: "All that awaits begins in what lies within". 

We only live once, and if we don't have the courage to BELIEVE in ourselves, to listen to what lies within, to that inner innocent childlike voice that keeps trying to remind us who we dreamt of becoming, who will?

The modern era of music has given way to enigmas and artists of all shapes and forms, shattering the norm of what have come to expect as far as what an artist truly is. None have approached it quite like Sunset Surrender, an artist that epitomises the essence of the modern era. A multi-talented musician, Sunset Surrender is orchestrated by Matteo Zandonella Bolco, bringing Retrowave Synth-pop music into the world by his desire to motivate, inspire, and comfort his audience while spreading love and joy to all who hear it.

    As his father traveled the world for work, Matteo consequently moved from country to country growing up, carrying with him a longing for a sense of home. There were few times he felt as hopeful as when his focus turned toward the future. While his heart always had an affinity for music, he was swept in many directions before turning pain into purpose and lessons into studio sessions. After needing to express in greater depth, this passion was concentrated into Sunset Surrender

    In creating music directly from the reflections of his experiences, Sunset Surrender has developed a songwriting style that is transparent, daring, and full of hope. While the songs are fun, they are multifaceted, holding many more serious undertones than at first listen. These songs push the boundaries of perception while inspiring and driving listeners to introspective conversations. Each piece is its own discussion, designed to turn memories and even sorrows of the past into light for the days ahead.

   Sunset Surrender is influenced by a wide array of musical talent, though accredits pivotal influences in his music to The Midnight, FM84, Timecop 1983, NINA as well as The Cure, New Order, U2, and Blink 182. In addition to its 80’s influenced Retrowave Pop style, music is emboldened with a sense of “Natsukashii,” a Japanese term roughly translating to 'nostalgia for a past that never was.'

  In late 2022 he released his debut album Lives Like The City, showcasing the depth of his lyricism in a unique piece of musical artistry. With a blend of authenticity, nostalgia, and outright delicious sound, there are many stories yet to be artisanally transformed by Sunset Surrender.

     Beyond the bright style that sets this work apart from contemporaries, a way to new expression is being paved. It may not be the music that 'changes the world,' but it certainly is the music that will change the people of the world.
