Rheinzand is back at it again releasing ‘We’ll Be Alright’ the first single from their upcoming album ‘Atlantis Atlantis’ imprinted Music For Dreams.

The trio wrote the entire second album in about a month. ‘We’ll Be Alright’ was born about halfway through the writing process. The first batch of songs comes
very easy, as you prepare those in your head. For this track, the first moment of fatigue kicked in, as some mistakes were made during the production. Some might say that mistakes have a negative connote, but these were for the greater good. Some chords were accidentally transposed, a “mistake” that resulted in the chorus as it is.

Starting with arpeggiated synth chords accompanied by the mellow piano playing throughout the track. Whether you’re walking with the head thumping 60’s bassline in- spired bass line by Bruno Coussée and minimalistic drum pattern by Stéphane Misseghers or swimming in the atmosphere is driven by Mo Disko’s hidden gems and dance floor jams and the sitar guitar by Reinhard Vanbergen creating the perfect atmosphere for the message of hope in Charlotte Caluwaerts soothing vocals. You’ll already feel quite alright from the get-go after listening to ‘We’ll Be Alright’.

Rheinzand themselves says that “the song is about hope for the future, a return to freedom, and a perfect message to start a new album campaign. Rheinzand is back, and we’ll be alright, and so will you.”

This is the beginning of a rather song-based album.

In the summer of 2010 Mercury Music Prize winners (and Everything But The Girl fans) The xx asked Tracey Thorn and her long-time partner in EBTG Ben Watt (also Strange Feeling label boss) to record a track from the The xx’s debut album for a special compilation the band were commissioning of covers of the album's songs by their favourite artists. Unfortunately the project fell apart a few months later for numerous logistical reasons (not least the second wind breathed into the original album by the Mercury Prize victory) but not before Tracey had sung a new version of one the album most beautiful tracks, 'Night Time'. 

The track gathered dust for a few months but it is rightfully seeing the light of day on a new EP from Tracey Thorn called the 'Night Time EP', released on Strange Feeling on October 31, much to the delight of all concerned. 'Night Time' was handpicked by Tracey and features Ben guesting on guitars and backing vocals (it is the first time the two have played together on a recording for over ten years) with the drums, programming and mix coming courtesy of Tracey's current production collaborator Ewan Pearson (producer of both Tracey's recent acclaimed album 'Love And Its Opposite' and 2007's 'Out Of The Woods'). As Tracey re-articulates Romy's lyrics, Ben fluidly arpeggiates the original interwoven guitar lines into one seamless pass, while Ewan adds crisp fresh half-tempo drums, atmospheric misty synths and booming bass. 

On the flip side, one of 'Love And Its Opposite''s most popular tracks 'Swimming' is revisited. Ewan buffs up and re-edits last year's remix by (then emerging and now) current dance producers-du-jour, Visionquest (Detroit's Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss) into a new version, with judicious new drum parts and a sparkling widescreen mix-down. Expect serious late summer club action. Meanwhile, UK underground house legend Charles Webster adds his magic totoo, with a beautifully percussive main mix and a rainy, autumnal dub.

It has been a while since the last new material from Acos Coolkas, the Siberia-born-Moscow-based duo comprised of Konstantin Atomas and Vasiliy Basalaev, but the wait has been well worth it. Proving the concept that quality prevails quantity, the guys deliver two absolutely gorgeous cuts that share the similar cosmic vibe of their previous output with production level taken one step higher (not least thanks to Theomatic technical team). Throbbing beat and low-end synth line on the title track evolve gradually into a epic space journey with that peculiar 80’s-style Italo dreamwave feel. The bassline of the second track will surely remind something to those who know their way around 70’s disco classics.

Same Mistakes

After reading an interview with Jim Kerr from the Simple Minds I broke out my colored vinyl copy of 'New Gold Dream' and lay on my living room floor listening. It brought back a lot of feelings. I read up on Steve Lillywhite's guitar production technique and discovered that he actually played a lot of the guitar on the records he produced. 
I looked at the original file of 'Big Sleep' as a potential re edit, but reconsidered and chose to do something more pure. I used a Juno 106 for the main melody, MiniMoog for the bass, Casio drums, and processed my acoustic guitar as per Mr. Lillywhite's instructions. I think that it's interesting in a vintage sort of way, having stripped the needy feelings from the original and left it electronic. It creates more of an open space for us, and so far I think I like it. Dunnoe. Gotta listen some more.

Sunshine Jones is often called a "house legend" from San Francisco. A founding member of Dubtribe Sound System. He also makes electronic music by himself. He travels the world performing a live/DJ set - live mixing, singing, re editing on the fly, and championing the idea that literally anything you can syncopate is house music. He re edits for leisure, experiments with electronics for adventure, is often in an airplane, and is very kind to children.
