Animation Vol 1

That's not a typo in the title - this piece was actually built upon the goal of writing a piece exclusively using presets from the Sunsine Audio expansion packs for Sunrizer Synth, Animoog, Cassini Synth, and DXi.  I've been intrigued with the idea of expansion packs for a while, and Sunsine has a growing catalog; this was a chance to explore that catalog.  The only sounds that don't come from one of the Sunsine presets are the drum beats and percussion.

Sticking to the presets was a bit of challenge for me.  I can't say that I always create my own patches, but at the very least, I do like to start with a preset and tweak it.  I found that starting with a set of sounds meant dictated some of my ideas.  I tried to keep things as organic as possible, and I think I found a good medium here.

As I tried to include a wide variety of patches from all the expansion packs, things get a bit thick and at times chaotic.  I kind of like that frantic feel in my music; it frames melody in a totally different way.  

I put this piece together completely on my iPad, using NanoStudio as my main workstation.  I also integrated sounds from Sunrizer Synth, Animoog, Cassini Synth, Dxi, and Stochastik Drum Machine.  With the exception of the drum beats, all the sounds came from Sunsine Audio preset packs.

Feeling The Sunsine

This composition began with a field recording I did of a bird that lives in my yard. It was one in the morning and as is his nightly antics he stays up the whole night chirping. I then used Glitchbreaks an ios app that I just got and came up with an interesting recording. I thought it went well with the bird. It's a really cool app and the sounds I used were all from Sunsine audio. They have made very inspiring sound sets for cassini, sunrizer, animoog, etc. I took that recording and copy and pasted into Garageband for ios. I added a few synths and did a little finger picking with the acoustic guitar and exported it directly here. Hope you enjoy it!
