I loaded the old 1989 module into renoise and render to wav and yes this is 4 channels no vst, except eq on base and slight echo on master channel, its 4tracks and 8bit samples only.

its the same as the one I created in beginning of 1989, i remember that
trick with having only one channel to do echo to have another same note but lowering the volume with C20 command, 2 steps down and 4 steps down with C10. C40 . . C20 . . C10...8bit samples the string is looping so you hear that like a bit unusual sound, but the cool up and down tone slide is done with D02 and D01 commands. I remember this like yesterday, so hooked on creating music and back in the days nobody used digital daws in music production to make a whole song like we do today, all electronic music was using synths and drum machines. So it was a bit like magic to be able to make something like this on just a home computer. 

I started with coding in 1985 when I was 12 years did some wavetable code on a c64, making just a sound was fantastic white noise and such. Then I used Rockmonitor 2 on c64 in 1987, I tried out the worlds first daw which was released in October 1986 Chris Huelsbeck but i think i just skipped it but then came ultimate sound monitor in 1987 on amiga 500 and it was magic to have 4 channels and samples. 

Trackers were world firsts fully digital daws with no need of additional midi equipment or being just a sequencer, just use a computer.

Steinbergs cubase came out in 1989 but it was only a MIDI sequencer and ran on the Atari ST computer.

1998 FL fruity loops Its official launch was in early 1998, when it was still a four-channel MIDI drum machine.

1999 august Steinberg had VST Instruments to act as standalone software synthesizers, in cubase 3.7 august 1999

I tried FL and using vst in 2000++ something i didnt like it so much, when I heard about RENOISE (tracker)  jumped in 2008 something it was like back to 80s again to the mother of daws.  Also a great thing with renoise is that i can load my old amiga song from 1989 into it, looks the same and sounds the same.
