TM8 Q: The genre you’d like to erase forever?
A: "If I could erase a genre, it would either be techno-trance pop-edits or neo-rave. I really don't like both of them and generally I'm not a big fan of that tiktok-techno stuff that got so big over the recent years."

Berlin-based, German-born artist Josephine Voigt delivers our first podcast of 2024. As a resident DJ for local collectives @hraberlin, @cumulonimbus-berlin and the Leipzig-based @exilkollektiv, Josephine has emerged as a DJ to watch in recent years. She never lingers long on any one sound and fuses several sub-genres into her sets, evoking visceral feels in clubs like OXI, Suicide Club, ://about blank and beyond. Right now, Josephine is into minimalistic, hypnotic soundscapes punctuated by percussive-organic rhythms and psy textures, as displayed in her TM8 mix. Expect a tense and moody journey into the murkier ends of electronic music.

Nanzhen Yang is a multiple-disciplinary artist and DJ based in Berlin and London, and a resident at the renowned Boudica, a platform focused on the faster side of electronic music that showcases women, trans+, and non- binary artists. 
 
Nanzhen seeks comfort in chaos, combining her love of techno music with experimental soundscapes, exploring the space between romanticism and industrial textures. From hard grooves to dark, ritualistic rhythm, she established a deep connection to the crowd through well-curated selections, she paints the picture of an artist who's deeply passionate and skilled in creating memorable sonic experiences for the dance floors.
Her unique mixing approach has brought her sound to international recognition . As not only one of the local favourites, she has expanded her music footprint in Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, Riga and Prague, played at the renowned venues and platforms as FOLD, Corsica studio, Kitkat, Inferno, Gegen, Hangaren and more.

Cervi is the musical project of Nicole, a DJ graduated from DJLab Academy and co-founder of the collectives Sonido Disidente and Insurrectx. Her work focuses on trance and techno, characterized by energetic rhythms and atmospheric melodies that create immersive experiences.
Despite her short career, Cervi has shared the stage with international DJs/producers such as future.666, Sánchez Jr., and Chippy Nonstop. Additionally, Cervi has collaborated with
international record labels; her mixes have been featured on platforms such as
Loveisthetruth in Spain, inTension Live in Romania and Hystrionic Records in Colombia.

En nuestra quinta edición invitamos a SINZ.

Sinz es DJ y productora de eventos de Costa Rica. Su propuesta combina sonidos oscuros y enérgicos del EBM de la vieja escuela, el synth-wave y el New Beat, fusionándolos con otros estilos como el TBM, Industrial, Electro y más.

Su camino comenzó en 2016 con la creación del colectivo Drogdanzing, un espacio dedicado a estos géneros, que la consolidó como una de las impulsoras clave de esta escena en el país.

En 2021 cofundó la productora Son Letal, un proyecto que promueve estos sonidos en su país, organizando eventos con artistas como Crystal Geometry, Mind Matter, Schwefelgelb, Dame Area, entre otros. Actualmente dirige Son Letal y desarrolla su segundo alter ego como DJ bajo el alias Lucretia Dose, donde explora los sonidos del hard techno y otros subgéneros.

Les invitamos leer esta pequeña entrevista que le hicimos a SINZ:

- ¿Qué te motivó a ser Dj?
Principalmente, la necesidad de crear un espacio donde pudiera escuchar música electrónica oscura. Cuando comencé a interesarme en la música electrónica, noté que en Costa Rica no existían lugares donde se mezclaran géneros relacionados. En el legendario Área City ponían uno que otro track, pero nunca ha sido un lugar de djs, entonces con un amigo decidimos organizar nuestros propios eventos , y para lograrlo, también tuve que aprender a mezclar, ya que no habían DJs que mezclaran estos géneros, o al menos no eran visibles.

- ¿Qué consejo le darías a alguien que está empezando a ser Dj?
1- Ser auténticx.
2- Mezcla lo que quieras, no le intentes quedar bien a nadie más que a vos mismo.
3- Crea redes y apoya a tus colegas —especialmente a los colectivos pequeños— porque desde ahí empezamos todxs.

- ¿Cuál crees que es uno de los principales retos en la escena Techno en CR?
Existen problemas institucionales importantes. Hay pocos espacios accesibles para aprender a mezclar o producir, lo que genera una escena poco inclusiva y con desigualdad de oportunidades. Además, la falta de regulaciones y formalidad en los trabajos termina en pagos injustos o incluso inexistentes. Aunque la escena electrónica en Costa Rica ha crecido bastante, los beneficios para lxs artistas siguen estancados.
