Make it a Double

"King, Queen, & Me" came from a stream of consciousness daydream in which I was one of the cards interacting with both the players and the cards of the deck as if everything was now a real person.  I went down the rabbit hole of production, overdubbing, looping, and decided to go all in, as I don't ever really take the time to experiment in that realm when I'm mixing for myself or for clients.  This seemed like the right 'out there' idea to push further and really try to get my computer to crash while rendering.  It didn't.

Half 3, Sounds British
3:33, That’s a palindrome
Quarter til 4, The kids don’t know what that means
4, O’clock
Quarter past 4, four fifteen
4:20, Ya man.
4:44, Also a palindrome,
5 O’clock, Don’t forget to punch out, I wonder what’s for dinner tonight
5:15, Enjoy the ride home

Hiding from the sun

She’s trying not

Cops and kids and katydids
Lovers holding hands

Dust cloud in a sunbeam
Sparrows on the hunt

That parking lot is where
There used to be a five and dime

Old man sculpted by regret
Purchased with his time

Trees are turning
Shades of red and yellow
On the ground
Nothing whispers in the breeze
When nothing comes around

Every breath gets shorter
With the coming of the cold

Shadows getting longer
As the light begins to fade
Conversation washed out
Like a welcome overstayed

Evening wraps it’s arms
Around horizon’s waning soul

Loneliness on the Front Porch

Sittin’ on the front porch, sittin’ with a fiddle
Sittin’ with a bottle that’s sit-in in the middle
There’s two box cars, two blocks down
You can hear them squeal, you can hear the sound
That’s loneliness that surrounds
Somebody’s lonely, their leaving’ this town

Sittin’ on the front porch, an old banjo
Sittin’ w/an old man, what does he know?
He knows what’s happened to him all his life
He know’s he’s been wronged, knows he’s been right
Is he lonely now? We don’t know,
Pass him the bottle he don’t talk no mo’

Sittin’ on the front porch, a washtub bass
Sittin’ with a young man, hurt in his face
He don’t understand the hurt in his heart
He ain’t learnt yet how to carry the doubt
Railtrain brakes a high refrain
One day he’ll learn that we’re all the same

Sittin’ on the front porch a mando pickin’
A big ole dog, a big bone licking’
He’s got it good and he knows
He watches us come and he watches go
Even when loneliness gets to him
He knows how to make the best of it

Sittin’ on the front porch deep in a holler
Bottle with three X’s takin’ me farther
Than the rail trains can ever go
It’s loneliness they only know
Don’t be like them, take a chance,
Find a stranger, shake-a-their hands

Next time that you get a minute,
Sit on the front porch with an instrument

One day when this front porch is gone,
You’ll know the story, you’ll know the song.
