This march is dedicated to the VMA-214 Squadron of the United States Marine Corps. Based on the Pacific island of Vella Lavella, it took part in the Guadalcanal campaign between 1942 and 1943 and was equipped with Chance Vought F4U Corsairs, also known as l'uccellaccio because of the folded wings on its W-wing.
