Rising stars within the free-form hip-hop, electronica, and jazz circuits. Respective Dutch talents Niels Broos and Jamie Peet have teamed up for their debut collective EP on Super-Sonic Jazz Records. Niels Broos, having come to attention through his music with Brainfeeders Jameszoo and The Kyteman Orchestra, creates a tapestry of hypnotic melodies and frantic harmonies atop the dexterous, and tight drum rolls of drummer Jamie Peet. The collaborative alliance creates an EP that sits within the young contemporary jazz scene, while it’s seeking for peculiar and adventurous sounds.

The self titled debut from the Dutch pair is full of free-improvisation, sterling electric sounds, trademark Rhodes warmth, electronica and jazz. From across Europe, artists are helping redefine our understanding of what jazz is, with Niels Broos & Jamie Peet falling directly into that vision. Niels Broos and Jamie Peet create that balance between classic sensibilities with a contemporary sound very much influenced by East Coast electronica exemplified by Broos’ work with Daedelus and Alpha Pup’s Daddy Kev. Jamie Peet, who more recently has collaborated with Cuban pianist Ramón Valle Trio and Cinematic Orchestra collaborator Dominic J Marshall, lays down a sequence of stirring highs, broken beat rhythms and a wide palette of rolling kicks. The EP creates a sound that stretches from the Brainfeeder-like of trippy melodies of ’Saitama’, through to the gritty minimalist overtures of 'Conundrum', to 'Heist', an electronic mesh of electronic and percussive explorations.

The Niels Broos & Jamie Peet EP is the first body of original pieces to be released on Super-Sonic Jazz, following recent reissues of records by Hal Singer & Jef Gilson, Beverly Glenn-Copeland and a tribute LP by Palm Unit. Super-Sonic Jazz Records is runned by Dutch DJ KC The Funkaholic (a.k.a. Kees Heus) and brothers Tenzers (a.k.a. Vincent & Siemen Tenzer). Besides the label, Super-Sonic Jazz hosts a successful six day festival, monthly concerts and club nights at Paradiso Amsterdam, where the three are responsible for bringing in exciting names in the global music scenes. Heus was also responsible for the running the Dutch imprint Kindred Spirits, that released records by international heavyweights, while championing local pioneers simultaneously.

IG Culture’s LCSM “Likwid Continual Space Motion” releases 21 track LP and theatre soundtrack Earthbound on Super-Sonic Jazz Records.

With last year’s ‘EP1’ release on the Super Sonic Jazz label, broken beat icon IG Culture introduced the world to the afro-futuristic and forward-thinking jazz of LCSM “Likwid Continual Space Motion”. Now, the UK pioneer kicks off the new decade by expanding on the project with a full-fledged album entitled Earthbound. The interstellar instrumentals blur borders between funk, soul and space-age jazz, while maintaining the signature ‘London Bruk Boogie’ sound IG Culture is recognised for. The album also serves as a score for the accompanying science fiction theatre production that goes by the same name.

Earthbound delicately propels listeners out of orbit and into the vastness of space. The conveying message behind the album is based on the work of author Zecharia Sitchin, who translated ancient Sumerian tablets that explain the origins of humans. The story revolves around the ancient people of Nibiru who return to earth, only to discover that the humans they had once passed down their knowledge are now living in a world of chaos. LCSM translates this esoteric journey by using intergalactic live jazz fusion. The resulting collage is a melange of live sax, alternating percussions sessions, Sun-Ra like piano lines, and otherworldly synth sessions.

Produced in cooperation with Saido Lehlouh, Johanna Faye and Summer Dance Forever Amsterdam, Earthbound sees IG Culture team up members from the London artist collective Steam Down, Alex Phountzi of Selectors Assemble (Bugz In The Attic), and Rhythm Section’s Neue Grafik. Collectively, the hive mind creates a holistic listening experience, to be enjoyed both on and off the dancefloor.

IG Culture is one of the most important protagonists of the UK’s broken beat jazz scene. Having set up the legendary CoOp night at Plastic People, he’s also the man behind CoOp Presents and Selectors Assemble. IG Culture is no stranger to Super-Sonic Jazz, having released an homage to Sun Ra on KC The Funkaholic first imprint, Kindred Spirits back in 2003. With three decades worth of prolific production nuance, Earthbound is the next challenge in the IG Culture’s legacy, an idea that was spurned on and encouraged by Super Sonic Jazz central figures KC The Funkaholic and brothers Vincent and Siemen Tenzer. With the theatre production making its debut late 2020, the full soundtrack and LP sees its release on June 15th.

Rising star @MPH-uk hits @NightBassRecords at full speed with his stellar 5-track ‘Nova’ EP. Effervescent padlines kick things off in ‘Famous’ with an impeccable flow from @PVCukmusic over a wicked low-end bassline, fortified by breakbeat arrangements that build anticipation into the next track ‘Useless’ where simple chord progressions melt harmoniously into notes of funk and soul. MPH’s trademark of blending a nice groove with bass heavy sounds comes through in ‘Deja Vu’ with the groovy soundscape following suit in ridiculously smooth title track ‘Nova’, a deeply satisfying garage number whose blissful resonance serenades you into the final track ‘Bus’, a classic cut of UK bass and grime to round off this incredible package.

Named after the Sun Ra’s acclaimed record from 1956, Super-Sonic Jazz is the label and event series run by Dutchman Kees Heus. Having already established Super-Sonic Jazz as one the leading nights for jazz, soul, African grooves and more at Amsterdam club Paradiso, it was inevitable Heus would take the next step, in releasing music to share with the community. To date, Super-Sonic Jazz has played host to a plethora of talents from across the world, with hip-swaggering style, and electronic-meets- rhythmic, soulful grooves. If you wanted to see Moses Sumney, Moses Boyd, or the Robert Glasper Experiment, then Paradiso is the place to be.

Prior to Super-Sonic Jazz, Heus was responsible for Kindred Spirits, the Paradiso night and Rush Hour distributed label that specialised in unearthing and sharing the wildest bohemian talents from the Netherlands -- including the likes of Jungle By Night, Rednose Distrikt, and Kid Sublime -- along with records by cult international talents, and a select bunch of sought-after re-issues. Kindred Spirits became the global seal of approval for anything that was authentic, soulful, and slamming, and serves as the perfect platform for what Super-Sonic Jazz has, and will become.

Referring back to Sun Ra, who was responsible for the record from which the label is named after, Heus states; “His music and philosophy is a big inspiration, always pushing the boundaries of music.” This philosophy is something constantly running through Super-Sonic Jazz. From the eclectic output, and styles, to the attention to detail and love for honesty, and love for the music, Super-Sonic Jazz is a true testament to one of the Netherland's most discerning of selectors. With select classic, epochal, and era-defining re-issues, to new and progressive, soul and jazz cuts primed for the modern listener, Super-Sonic Jazz is a true taste-maker's label.
