One year on from Life Isn’t A Fountain? - the Lex Records EP where archival post-punk was reanimated through meticulous sample-work - the elusive producer U returns with a project that reaches further back and digs far deeper. On ARCHENFIELD, U turns their attention to the Herefordshire borderlands, where English and Welsh histories intermingle and where myth, memory and landscape blur into one another. The album unfolds like auditory time travel: fourteen tracks built from traditional song, home-taped fragments and scraps pulled from television, radio, film and YouTube, all woven into a drifting folkloric reverie.

Rather than simply excavating the past, U examines how stories mutate through retelling, how landscapes carry collective memory, and how folklore persists in the messy ways people inhabit a place. If Life Isn’t A Fountain? channelled Thatcher-era discontent through a cracked post-punk prism, ARCHENFIELD widens the lens to probe the fragile relationship between identity and the rural environments that shape it. Dusty pianos, murmuring drones and spectral voices evoke a modern England increasingly severed from the histories beneath its feet.

To mark the release, U delivers IA MIX 397, a journey through post-punk, new wave and wayward micro-scenes. Mining forgotten corners of their collection, U mirrors the album’s central question: how the remnants of one era can speak powerfully to the uncertainties of another.

Expanded Radio Research Unit - Healing Sounds, Chants and Meditation

Recorded at 宀 Club in Hong Kong for Host on July 12th 2025.

Gemnital, who grew up in the 90s, embarked on a musical journey ranging from Hip-Hop and R&B to rock, jazz, experimental music, exploring the realms of psychedelic, funk, and disco. As time went on, he delved deeper into various genres but eventually circled back to Mandarin golden melodies.

During his studies in Leipzig, Germany, he found himself immersed in underground warehouse parties held in ruins and forests. Later in Berlin, he discovered his true self in a multitude of clubs and queer parties, mastering the art of creating and maintaining energy and ambiance within different spaces.

Now back in Taipei, he is a regular DJ at Pawnshop. On the dance floor, he aims to play without boundaries, seamlessly blending familiar and unfamiliar tracks picked from his diverse musical experiences, creating an atmosphere of pure dancefloor bliss. Recently, he has been exploring the intersection of Techno and House, seeking speed and exhilaration from genres like Hardgroove, and strives to craft sets that take the listeners on a captivating journey with well-defined peaks and transitions.

In recent years, he has also performed at the Organik Festival and Spectrum Festival in Taiwan, Wonderfruit Festival in Thailand,  Zhaodai club in Beijing, Savage club in Hanoi, Nyapi club and Permit warehouse party in Seoul, Smutt queer rave party in Manila, as well as Sublet and Leak Your Own Nudes parties in Sydney, consistently delivering bouncy, rolling rhythms filled with joy.

Beyond his DJ persona, Gemnital is deeply involved in sound research and the field of sound art. He is a university lecturer and critic in the realm of sound art, and his personal sound walks and installation works have been showcased at art festivals such as Berlin's 48 Stunden Neukölln. In 2023, he collaborated with renowned sound artist Betty Apple for the sound performance “Body Planty Party” at Taipei Arts Festival. 

MIX094 – Gemnital (台北) [Live for Host]

Avsluta is the project of Czech-born, London-based sound alchemist Lucie Štěpánková - a composer, DJ, curator, and live performer whose work invites deep, intentional listening in an age of constant acceleration. Inspired by the life and teachings of Pauline Oliveros, as well as her years of study in sound art, Avsluta’s practice is rooted in listening and presence as a practice. To me, Avsluta has always been a reminder of the slow life - encouraging slowness and reflection while drawing attention to how our living environments are shaped by sound.

Her ritualistic music-making practice often begins simply, with a cup of tea and incense lit, setting the tone for her intuitive approach to creativity. Moving fluidly between contemplative ambient soundscapes, downtempo, and subtle rhythmic techno inspiring of embodied movement, Avsluta’s music blends traditional production practices with field recordings, free improvisation using collected objects and organic materials and often her own ethereal vocals.
Live performance plays a vital role in her practice, including work with improvisation and spatial audio. Beyond her own artistic output, Avsluta is deeply engaged in nurturing listening cultures and community. She runs Introspective Electronics, a platform featuring a radio show and podcast series dedicated to peaceful soundtracks for slow Sundays. Alongside Alicia, she co-curates Terra Obscura, a bi-monthly event series, and has recently expanded into music management as a booking agent with Organic Signs.

“back in september, it was the last days of summer and this gig came perfectly on time with where i was musically as an artist. the whole summer i spent my days diving into dubby sound and this special atmospheric layer that makes it magical the more you dance to it, the more you hear it. when the collective æther asked me to open their party with a 4-hour set before artists that i really admire, notte infinita (live) & jan loup it came quite intuitively to build it. it was the first time for me to play that long and i knew that i wanted something that was building up slowly and with each track that made sense to me and to this beautiful summer i spent discovering. i think this set kind of waves through every type of sounds that resonates the most with myself at that time and hearing it back feels like a journey full of introspective sunny memories ending to enter another season.”

a gorgeous contribution from belgium’s emerging artist, su:zy, to round off another wonderful year of untitled 909. i first connected with su:zy in the summer following my back-to-back with annx for my spiralling, naturally show on netil radio. su:zy shared the mix and from there we followed each other & naturally connected via the music we were sharing on socials. we then met in brussels when i went to play for horst club and i was instantly drawn in by his super warm energy and pure curiosity & passion when it comes to music, sharing stories of recent dancefloor experiences and what we were excited about for the weeks ahead. these are qualities that i’m sure will resonate with you when you listen to su:zy’s contribution to the 909 mix series - an almost 4-hour live recording from a gig earlier this year. starting with dream-like ambient, the set bubbles and whirls through glorious dubby delights and slinky techno to melt into. 

part of the gimic radio team, su:zy recently made his mark on the local scene as a dj. playing at notable venues across belgium including funke, bodies in space and club capital plus an upcoming debut at horst club early next year, su:zy also hosts a radio residency on gimic called synæ .˚○ • ° where it edition explores a different colour or texture, explaining “synæ is about this neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory leads to the experience of another.” 

only a year or so in, we’re super excited to see where su:zy is headed! his ability to craft beautiful worlds and stories for listeners and dancers to immerse themselves in is incredible. to understand more about his journey so far, we chat to su:zy about early influences, the story behind this live recording, what he connects with most about being an artist, and the current scene in belgium which is currently facing huge issues with multiple recent venue closures but a bubbling diy scene. enjoy! x

This is actually a rework of a track that I made a few years before. Especially back then, my music was mostly influenced by some parties in l'Épicerie Moderne in (Brussels) and @stackenschneider (St Petersburg). 
I didn't like the old version anymore, lost some files, bootlegged, changed some bits... Now I quite happy with it. Enjoy!
